Researchers and educators at the University of Florida are leading a groundbreaking initiative to revolutionize Computer Science Education. They are equipping Florida teachers with the necessary skills to adequately prepare students for a future dominated by technological advancements. The CSEveryone team at UF has already trained over 300 educators, resulting in a significant impact on thousands of K-12 students throughout the state.

Introduced in 2021 with the backing of Kenneth C. Griffin, the founder and CEO of Citadel and the creator of Griffin Catalyst, CSEveryone provides one of the most extensive career pathway programs nationwide. The program aims to establish itself as a model for enhancing Computer Science education for K-12 students across the United States.

Through this initiative, educators nationwide have the opportunity to pursue an online microcredential to earn a badge or access free practice assessments for the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE). Additionally, teachers can choose to enroll in online graduate certificate programs, as well as master’s and doctoral programs at UF, to further their professional development in this field.

The recently established CSEveryone Center for Computer Science Education, led by Maya Israel, Ph.D., an associate professor specializing in educational technology and computer science education at UF, will build upon the foundation laid by the CSEveryone initiative. Israel’s leadership aims to enhance teachers’ proficiency in K-12 computer science education.

“Through empowering teachers with the necessary skills and confidence to deliver top-notch computer science education, the UF College of Education is revolutionizing the state’s ability to cultivate its technology sector. This initiative positions Florida to address the needs of present and future employers,” remarked Israel.

During the previous autumn at UF, CSEveryone organized a computer science education summit, gathering representatives from colleges, universities, schools, districts, alongside community stakeholders and nonprofit organizations.

In addition to its broader educator preparation initiatives, CSEveryone has recently secured funding from Google to enhance computer science learning opportunities specifically tailored for students with disabilities.
