Smt. N.H.L. Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad

Introduction to the institute:

Smt. Nathiba Hargovandas Lakhmichand (NHL) Municipal Medical College (NHLMMC) is a prospecting municipal medical college located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The college is affiliated to the Gujarat University. This college was established in 1963 by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation thereby becoming the second Indian Municipal Corporation to establish its medical college.

1) History:

Dated back to 1963, Smt N.H.L Municipal Medical College had a total enrolment capacity of 75 students which expanded to a capacity of 150 after the year 2000. In the year 2016, the college further enlarged its admission capacity to 250 students per year, which are the maximum number of undergraduate admissions for any college in India.

The college blossomed into a very promising education institute after a generous donation of Rs.14.25 lakhs from Smt. Nathiba Hargovandas Lakhmichand charitable trust, a laudable trust of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation that promotes medical education. It further ensures the best possible facilities for medical education for the aspiring students. The dedication and contribution of Dr M.D Desai, the former superintendent of Sheth V.S Hospital and the founding dean of the college is commendable.

One of the most prestigious medical colleges in Gujarat, this college was inaugurated by Mr.Moraji Desai, the fourth prime minister of India on 15th June 1963 in Sheth Shri Mngakdas Town Hall.
