KEY REASONS WHY FRESHERS ARE STRUGGLING TO GET A JOB ?

WHY FRESHERS ARE STRUGGLING TO GET A JOB? – Every year a very large number of students hold their degrees and become graduates from colleges and universities but out of them there are only a few lucky students who get the right jobs with good pay immediately after their graduation on the other hand remaining students are still Struggling to get a job. We all know that countries like India are rich in producing education and literacy rate has increased tremendously over the past few years, there are so many students opting for higher education which results in intense competition for getting admissions in colleges due to limited availability of seats but even after putting so much efforts and getting the highest educational degree possible still Freshers are having a hard time finding a job even though there are ample amount of opportunities and emerging career options available in Today’s world.

So who should we blame for this major failure in our country “Education System”, “Institutions”, “Organisations” or “Students” let’s discuss with some facts.

With my own experience after working in the corporate world in one sentence, we could figure out the major reason why freshers are struggling to get a job is because in our school and college education we are never taught “ How to Work ?”

Simply ask this simple question to yourself did any of your teacher or faculty member ever taught you How to Work? apart from teaching their own subjects. If Not then Why?

Because their job is only to teach their own subject and give you your report card for which they are getting paid to earn their living.

There is a difference between reading books and performing the same work in the real world and what as freshers are doing is just reading books and are not able to perform the practical work in reality out of these books. Let’s understand this concept with a simple example.

Suppose you went to any motor driving school to learn “How to Drive a Car ?”, You submitted the fees and went to their classroom after that their instructor provided you some books and started explaining the rules of the road, how to drive, etc. and now you are familiar and know theoretically what is brake, clutch, and accelerator but would you be able to drive a car perfectly just after this theoretical knowledge.

Same is the case with freshers they might know their subjects well, they might have scored more than 90% marks in their schools or colleges but when it comes to performing the live task there are major chance of a failure in achieving the desired result that could lead to escalations and for that organization that hired that fresher for this responsibility could suffer losses.

To master any skill it requires knowledge, training, practice, and patience but freshers even lack incomplete knowledge of their specialization and are unclear about what they are good at.

Now Let’s dive deep into this concept to figure out the core reasons why freshers are struggling to get a job and figure out some solutions for this problem.

UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS

When it comes to getting your first job, It’s not just only you who expect that now it’s the time after so many years of my life only studying I will start earning but more than you it’s your family who needs you to handle responsibilities which creates more pressure in the minds of a college fresher. But in the real life, this leads to unrealistic expectations, since there is no one who could guide him/her the correct path to progress therefore many lands into the career path which is misleading and turns exactly opposite as per their expectations.

If you are a fresher having a hard time finding a job then you need to first understand that it’s not that jobs are not available but the expectations that you have from the kind of job you want to do is rarely available.

If you are not from IITs, IIM’s or any other highly reputed institutions in India then the chances are that you will never ever land into a job that is offering you more than 6 lakhs per annum as a fresher. The reason is that these institutions are limited in numbers and organizations have direct tie-ups with them to provide the best fresh human resources so that they could train them and hire them as the replacement for the promoted employees in their organization.

Since vacancies in any organisation is limited and on the other hand there are so many fresh applicants applying for the position in the companies therefore they are able to headhunt best resources out of these reputable institutions and if required then they outsource employees from consultancies or conduct walk-in interviews where they offer ground level jobs like IT Troubleshooting and Calling profiles like BPO’s for usually around 10k to 15k per month.

Therefore you need to understand that there are chances that you could get a good job with high pay but on the other hand you can’t ignore the fact that India is very high in the unemployment rate and the jobs that are available at the initial level will not offer you much as per your expectations that could make your life secure.

UNDERSTAND THE PRACTICAL SIDE OF LIFE

The dark side of our lives in countries like India is that Jobs for us is directly proportional to emotion and the source of survival, Everyone has a huge expectation but when it comes to reality its creating more and more stress and instant depression, lack of finances, the fear of failure, lack of family support,  relatives and peer pressure, comparison and the rat race of who is the best ? is making our lives more than worse today !

It’s true that we as freshers have a lot of potential and raw talent that could lead to more and more opportunities in future but since we are in a rat race we forget the instant opportunities that are available for us and focus on unrealistic goals.

As a fresher, we only think about getting places in the Top IT Companies like Accenture, Google, Wipro, TCS, HCL, etc hoping that by joining these organizations at the first step will be the biggest success in our life.

Yes for some it may lead to ultimate success but in practical life as a fresher you need to understand that it may or may not be like what we are expecting at first, and If you think that this is the only goal that you want to achieve in life then ask yourself why people resign from these companies every other day even for them it could be their ultimate goal to be in that company.

You need to understand that life is full of ups and downs, what you might think is good for you now might result in a liability for you in the future.

KNOW YOURSELF FIRST

Now you as a fresher know your needs that you need a job! Right, but do you know who needs you for the job?

The biggest IT Companies as we mentioned above are already big brands in the market and the majority of the population in the world is looking forward to joining them due to their brand image , Yes for a fresher it would be like a dream come true if you join any big organization in the first step, you will think that your hard work is now paying off.

But right now if you are having difficulty finding a job in the MNC Company then understand the fact that you need a job from them but do they need you as a fresher?

Some of the students are overconfident and they do not attend Job interviews of a Startup company or a small scale company with the expectations that we will directly land in a multinational company with a good package.

But ask yourself are you a good match for these big organization right as a fresher, would you be able to bring them more profit as a resource or would you be able to manage their client’s requirements or manage any other big responsibility immediately.

There is a lot that a fresher needs to learn and understand, You need to understand that your formal education is over but now the real-life education begins. In fact, there are lots of startups in India and across the world and they are looking for the right candidate which does not cost to the company and would be able to involve in more and more tasks that will bring more confidence and real work experience to an individual.

On the other hand, if you are a fresher looking forward to joining a Multinational Company then you will be provided with a specific KRA’s ( Key Responsibility Areas ) other than that they don’t need you to get involved in any other aspect of your job role.

Your Ideas will not be considered even though its a million dollar idea for that organization. With the monotonous work schedule and routine later in life after one or two years of work you will suffer from boredom but since you invested a lot of time here and there is no other immediate opportunity better than this your comfort zone will let you remain at a saturation stage where you are and there will be no progress in life.

UNDERSTAND THE NEED OF THE MARKET OR EMPLOYER?

If you are fresher having trouble finding a job then before thinking about more complicated stuff and getting involved in learning more and more things and investing your precious time, Think whether you understood the need of the market or your employer.

In private organizations, there is only work and requirement that is considered. If you appeared for the interviews and got rejected then it doesn’t necessarily mean that you are not capable of handling that job but it is due to the fact that they might not feel that you are a better fit for that role.

By this we also meant that It’s not necessary that companies are always hiring the best, they just want to fulfill the need of their market for what they are getting paid and for that, if you are a good match then they will hire you it’s that simple.

Suppose you are top scorer student in your college and they are offering you a job of 7000 rupees a month which doesn’t require any hardcore knowledge of your subject but they require an employee who is good at data entry work and not an engineer so why will they hire you because they know that after hiring you there are chances that you will not pursue it for long and they need to hire for your replacement again.

So running after good marks in board exams or university exams and becoming a topper will not necessarily make you grow rich and successful but it’s your work, talent, skills, knowledge, adaptability, etc that will give you your way of life. when we are in college life we actually don’t know what actually we have to do after our graduation even we don’t know how the market(our job Interest field) is going on and what are the new things that are coming in the market, after graduation we walk here and there to find a 10,000/- salary and due to the lack of knowledge we are not getting a job in the end we try to change our profession.

This will only lead to dissatisfaction in life and no progress.

IDENTIFY YOUR GOALS, RESEARCH AND START PREPARING

Being a Fresher is the best stage in life where you could take risk, experiment and try something new with the fresh new energy and mindset, If you know you are talented enough and you have the skill that serves the people with benefit what they are looking for the job is not the only cup of tea, It’s your life and if you think more and more about the job security then to be honest there is no such job security in the private world.

Anything could happen so as a fresher if you are struggling to find a job then it’s a right time to learn and explore, don’t settle but try something new every day and one day you will find your best job or something that could change the world for better.

Here you need to identify your clear goals and need to understand where you want to be in the next 5 years because that will define your path to success, whether financial success, opportunity success or more.

If you have specified goals and start your research and apply for the opportunities you think that fits best with respect to your resume so that there are higher chances for you to get hired and never be afraid to get enrolled in any short term training programs because they will help you a lot to build specific skills that are required in day to day life as knowledge never goes waste, therefore, it will be an added advantage in what you want to achieve.
