It will draw visitors from all walks of life. Moreover, it is the only museum in India which is expected to draw tourists from both within the country and abroad. In addition, it will offer an insight into the rich legacy and glory of the force.

Many people in the Chandigarh are not aware about the existence of this museum. It is a must visit place to know more about the glorious history of Indian Air Force. The only one of its kind in India – Iaf Heritage Centre is a fine alliance of Indian Military Aviation and Indian Air Force. This museum showcases a rich collection of planes that played/playing a crucial role in defending the country over the decades.

IAF Heritage Museum Getting To Open For Public on 31 January

The ‘IAF Heritage Centre’ is jointly set up by the force and the Chandigarh administration. An MoU between the Union Territory of Chandigarh and the IAF for setting up of the centre was inked. The ceremony was attended by Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari. The work on the heritage museum was said to be completed by December 16, 2022.

Highlights of IAF Heritage Centre, Chandigarh

The IAF heritage centre will have artefacts, a simulator, aero engines, armaments, memorabilia and other artefacts. Additionally, other interactive boards to highlight various facets of IAF. It will also showcase the vital role played by the service in various wars and assistance rendered for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. Apart from this, a souvenir shop will also be set up at the museum.

Furthermore, a Gnat fighter aircraft will be mounted on a pillar at the Sector 8-9-17-18 traffic lights, adjacent to the Indian Air Force Heritage Centre at Government Press building in Sector 18.

The single-engine rare aircraft machine was designed and built by late Air Vice Marshal Harjinder Singh in 1958 and shall be kept at the museum.

The Kanpur-1 Aircraft, was handed over by Prof Baldev Setia, PEC Director, to Air Marshal R Radhish AVSM VM, SASO, HQ Western Air Command at the Aeronautical Engineering Division of PEC, Chandigarh.

Similarly, MiG 21 and Gnat aircraft are also at the museum.
