Four processes involved in Marine Erosion are:

These particles act as tools, continuously scouring and wearing away the land surface, including cliffs, rocks, and shorelines. The intensity of abrasion depends on factors such as the size and hardness of the sediment particles and the force of the waves.
- Solution: Solution erosion is a chemical process that occurs in areas where the coastline is made up of soluble rocks, such as limestone or chalk. Seawater contains dissolved chemicals, and as waves wash over the rocks, they react with and dissolve the soluble minerals. This gradual dissolution weakens the rocks and can lead to the formation of distinctive coastal landforms, such as sea caves, sinkholes, and disappearing streams.
- Attrition: Attrition is the process by which sediment particles carried by waves collide and interact with each other and with the coast. As waves break against the shoreline, the sediment particles are continuously jostled and rubbed together, causing them to become smaller and smoother over time. This process leads to the gradual rounding and reduction in size of the sediment particles.
These processes of hydraulic action, abrasion, solution, and attrition work together to shape and erode coastal landforms. The intensity and rate of marine erosion depend on various factors, including the strength of the waves, the composition of the coastline, the availability of sediment, and the duration of Wave action. Coastal management strategies are important for mitigating the impacts of marine erosion and protecting valuable coastal areas.
