- Settlement is difficult along the sides of a fiord because of lack of level land.
- the mudflats, swamps and marshes are breeding places for disease causing vectors eg mosquitoes etc. there is a problem of occasional flooding especially in areas covered by Mudflats and this leads to destruction of property.
