The Global India AI 2023 Conference is scheduled to be held in October.

• India is scheduled to host the first phase or edition of the “Global India AI 2023” conference in October this year.
• The conference aims to provide a unique platform to discuss various topics on next-generation learning and fundamental artificial intelligence models, applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in governance, healthcare, electric vehicles and computer systems.

Mahendragiri is scheduled to be launched in Mumbai on September 1.

• Newly designed and built at Mazagon Dock shipyard in Mumbai, Maharashtra, the new warship ‘Mahendragiri’ is scheduled to be launched on 01 September.
• Notably, it is the seventh enemy radar-evasion type warship under the Indian Navy’s program 17A. The warship will be launched by Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankar and his wife Dr. Sudesh Dhankar.

The Union Ministry has entered into an MoU with NSKFDC for strategic partnership.

• The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has on August 30 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC) for strategic partnership and management for the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25.
• This strategic partnership has been entered into with the main objective of ensuring socio-economic development of Safai officials, waste pickers, manual scavengers and their dependents.

The Union Finance Minister will launch the ‘Mera Bill Mera Adhikar’ scheme on September 1.

• Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will launch the “Mera Bill Mera Adhikar” scheme in Gurugram, Haryana on September 1, 2023, Deputy Chief Minister Chautala has recently announced.
• He will launch the program at an event organized in the “Sector 15” area of Gurugram, the notification said. The project aims to upload the receipts of all consumer goods purchases in the state on the portal. He said that this project will play an important role in GST collection.

IIT Guwahati has entered into an MoU agreement with NRL organization for development of sustainable materials.

• Numaligarh Refinery Limited(NRL) has on August 30 entered into a major MoU with IIT Guwahati to develop technology to produce marketable graded carbon from bamboo dust as part of its R&D initiative.
• The MoU envisages the establishment of a 5 MT/unit capacity plant to produce activated green carbon through bamboo dust replacement technology.

A memorandum of understanding has been entered into with a Brazilian university to promote academic cooperation.

• India’s premier academic institution, Lucknow University, on August 30 signed an agreement with Brazil’s flagship university, Universidade de São Paulo (USP).
• It has been undertaken with the primary objective of promoting cooperation in the fields of cultural exchange, education and research. It is notable that the agreement covers various activities such as integrated teaching initiatives, strategically aligned professional development initiatives.

UK and Kuwait sign Investment Cooperation Agreement

• Kuwait and the UK signed a memorandum of understanding on August 30 on cooperation and investment partnership in key sectors of the two countries.
• The agreement was signed in the presence of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Mishaal at 10 Downing in London. It is significant that this agreement has been made with the aim of increasing investment in the important sectors of trade, economy, education, scientific research and export of raw materials of both countries.

General Nguema has been chosen as the transitional president of the Central African country of Gabon.

• Following the worst of the recent coup in the Central African nation of Gabon, Republican Party leader General Brice Oligui Nguema has been chosen as the country’s transitional president or leader.
• Notably, the appointment comes hours after the announcement of a military takeover of the country following the ousting of President Ali Bongo over disputed elections in the country on August 26.

The Union Minister inaugurated Utkela Airport.

• Union Minister of Civil Aviation Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia and Director of Ministry of Civil Aviation Vijay Kumar Singh (retd) along with MoS inaugurated Odisha’s Utkela Airport on August 31.
• At the same time, he has also opened a direct flight between Utkela and the state capital Bhubaneswar. Utkela-Bhubaneswar-Utkela air route is said to improve the regional air connectivity of the state and play an important role in economic development.

Appointment of Driss El Hadani as Senior Advisor to UNOOSA.

• In its latest announcement, Morocco’s CRTS has appointed Dr. Driss El Hadani, Director General, as the United Nations Chief Senior Adviser on Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).
• UNOOSA will provide expert advice and scientific research support for the space science and educational activities and projects implemented by UNOOSA, the statement said. It is also reported that he will manage the office functions related to its regional centers affiliated with the UN Council.

Saurabh Taneja appointed as new CFO of Mahindra Logistics.

• Mahindra, the world’s largest logistics services provider, announced on August 31 that it has appointed Saurabh Taneja as its Chief Financial Officer for all market blog and live operations.
• The appointment was informed that the decision was taken and approved in a recent meeting of the Board of Directors. At the same time, Ashay Shah has been appointed as Head of LMD & Corporate Strategy.

Rikhil Shah appointed as Chief Financial Officer of Bharti AXA Life Insurance Company.

• The most popular Bharti AXA Life Insurance Company has appointed Rikhil K. Shah as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), according to the company’s latest announcement.
• He will be primarily responsible for assessing and managing key financial risks and directing the company’s financial operations, while ensuring compliance with the company’s regulatory norms.

Korvi has received the Magsaysay Award, the ‘Nobel Prize of Asia’.

• Korvi Rakshand, founder of the renowned JAAGO Foundation, has been announced on 31st August 2023 as the recipient of the 2023 Raman Magsaysay Award in the Emerging Leadership category.
• The formal awards of the Ramon Magsaysay Organization will be presented on November 11, 2023 at the Metropolitan Campus in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. This award is commonly referred to as the Nobel Prize of Asia.

Ektaa becomes the first Indian filmmaker to win the International Emmy Directing Award.

• Ektaa Kapoor will be honored with the 2023 International Emmy Directing Award, announced on August 30 by Bruce L. Paisner, president of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
• It has been reported that the award will be given to him at the 51st and 2023 International Emmy Awards ceremony to be held in New York City on November 20.

MRPL wins Global Water Management Company Award.

• Mangalore Refining and Petrochemicals Company (MRPL) has bagged the award for Global Water Management Company of the Year 2023.
• These prestigious awards are presented by the Energy and Environment Foundation (EEF). Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore presented the award on August 25, 2023 in the national capital, New Delhi.

Arjun won the Focus Telangana Sportstar Award for Emerging Hero category.

• Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erikaisi was selected in the “Emerging Hero” category at the Sportstar Focus Telangana conference held on August 30 in Hyderabad.
• Notably, he is one of a group of talented youngsters making huge waves in the world of chess and it is special that two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu has honored Arjun’s parents with this prestigious award.

National Nutrition Week 2023

• National Nutrition Week is observed every year on the first week of September (September 1 to 7) to create awareness around the world about the importance of proper nutrition and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and how proper eating habits can contribute to the longevity of life.
• This week was introduced by the American Dietetic Association in March 1973. It is also significant that in 1982, the Government of India started celebrating this week. “Making Healthy Diet Affordable for All” is the theme for this year.
