A plan to overhaul the 163-year-old Indian Penal Code.

• Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently introduced the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 in Parliament to replace the 163-year-old Indian Penal Code of 1860.
• The Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023 and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha, 2023 amend the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 and the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 respectively.

International news

An exhibition on “Glory of Indian Art” is planned to be held in Dhaka.

• The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh has organized an exhibition titled “Glory of Indian Art” in commemoration of the grand event “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Center in its capital Dhaka on August 11.
• Indian High Commissioner Pranai Verma inaugurated the exhibition showcasing 75 works of art by renowned Bangladeshi artists. It also promotes cultural exchange between the two countries and the exhibition is designed to highlight the deep bond between India and Bangladesh to the world.

State news

The Union Minister laid the foundation stone for IFFCO Nano Urea Plant.

• Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for the National IFFCO Nano Urea Plant at Gandhidam, Kutch, Gujarat on August 12. The event is part of his two-day tour of Gujarat.
• The Union Minister said the plant is designed to fulfill the primary goals of the new green revolution to help the country become self-sufficient in food production and bring prosperity to farmers.

A one-day National Conference on “Nalanda Buddhism” begins.

• BD Mishra, as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, formally inaugurated a one-day National conference on the category of “Nalanda Buddhism” in August 2023 at the Central Buddhist Research Institute in its capital, Leh.
• The conference is organized by the Indian Himalayan Division of the Nalanda Buddhist Tradition in joint collaboration with the All Ladakh Gonpa Organization and the Ladakh Buddhist Association. The conference is organized with the objective of retrieving the source material in the footsteps of Nalanda Buddhism and discussing the challenges for Nalanda Buddhism.

The country’s first Agricultural Data Management Framework has been launched in Hyderabad.

• Telangana State Industries Minister K Ramarao inaugurated India’s first Agricultural Data Management Framework (ADMF) and Agricultural Data Exchange Framework (ADeX) in the state capital Hyderabad in August 2023.
• It is notable that ADeX and ADMF have been developed as a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for the Central Department of Agriculture and a joint collaboration between State Governments-World Economic Forum-Indian Institute of Science.
• The system aims to facilitate secure and standards-based data exchange management among agricultural data providers such as government agencies, non-governmental organizations and private companies.

BAI has started a National Center of Excellence in Guwahati.

• In a major boost to the development of badminton in the country and the North Eastern region, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) inaugurated a “state-of-the-art National Center of Excellence” in Guwahati, Assam on August 11.
• The center is designed with international standard facilities. In addition, the center will be equipped with state-of-the-art fitness equipment, including a 60-bed and 2,000-square-dedicated physiotherapy center to ensure athletes receive the utmost care and support to maintain their peak performance, the BAI organization said in its announcement.

Appointments

Anurag Tiwari appointed as National Education Director for Unacademy Institutional Centres.

• Learning platform Unacademy has announced in its latest announcement on August 11 that Anurag Tiwari has been appointed as the Countrywide National Education Director for Unacademy Institutional Centers.
• It is notable that before this appointment, he has worked for 13 years as the Countrywide National Education Director at Aakash Educational Services, India’s largest learning platform. The company also said that he is expected to further improve this learning platform through his continuous efforts through this appointment.

Kunal Vasudeva has been appointed as the Managing Director of ISH.

• Culinary and hospitality institute Indian School of Hospitality (ISH) has appointed Kunal Vasudeva as its Managing Director, said in its August announcement.
• It is notable that he has also been promoted to the post of co-founder. It is considered significant that he has served as the Chief Operating Officer of the company prior to this appointment. Dilip Puri, the company’s CEO, has now been promoted to “CDO”.

The National Gopal Ratna Award for the year 2023 is planned to be presented on the National Milk Day of the country.

• The Ministry of Dairying and Animal Husbandry had mentioned in its August announcement that it plans to present the National Gopal Ratna Awards for 2023 on the country’s National Milk Day.
• These awards are given every year to encourage dairy cooperatives, dairy farmers and artificial insemination technicians (AITs) under the RGM scheme. It is notable that the RashtriyaGokulMission(RGM) was launched in India in December 2014 with the aim of protecting indigenous cattle breeds.

CloudThat has received the Microsoft Superstar Award for 2023.

• Bangalore-based CloudThat, a training and consulting web solutions provider, has received the “Microsoft Superstar Award” for the year 2023 in its latest announcement.
• This is the company’s fifth consecutive award in the last four years. This award is yet another testament to CloudThat’s exceptional commitment to delivering a variety of development training programs of excellence and excellence.

Olympic Referee Vyas has been given a Lifetime Achievement Award.

• Vyas (Mayur Vyas), former Indian swimmer and current coach of the Indian swimming team and referee in international swimming competitions, has been conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Glory Awards in Juhu in August 2023.
• The award was presented to him by Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. This award has been given to the world for making the Indian swimming team aware of the talent through his pioneering efforts.

International Lefthanders Day 2023

• In a world dominated by right-handed people, 13th August is observed every year as “International Left-Handed Day” or ‘International Left-Day’ to respect and treat left-handed people without discrimination, and to create awareness among people around the world about the daily problems they face.
• The day was first celebrated in 1976 by its founder Dean R. Campbell and the UN has mentioned in its report that almost 10 percent of the world’s population is left-handed, and men are the majority.
