Parliament has passed the National Dental Commission Bill 2023.

• On August 08, 2023, the National Dental Commission Bill, 2023 was passed in the Rajya Sabha of Parliament and recently this bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha.
• The bill seeks to align dental education with universal standards. The Union Minister said that the Bill was passed with the aim of providing directions for the establishment of a Central National Dental Commission in place of the “Dental Council of India”.
• The case is also seen as a special case of ways to reform the online registry of licensed dentists.

The Union government has launched a special skill development initiative for the North Eastern region.

• Dharmendra Pradhan (Union Education and Skill Development Minister), Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy and IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar launched the initiative ‘Changing Lives, Building Future: Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in North East’ on 08 August 2023.
• According to this, the central government has mentioned in its notification that a wide range of programs and vocational skills training education system will be provided to 250,000 youth (boys and girls) in the North Eastern region under this initiative.

Indraprastha Delhi has signed an MoU to strengthen support for startups.

• Indraprastha Delhi(IIIT) Institute of Development Center (IIITD-IC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with YES Bank of India in August 2023, with an aim to further strengthen its mentoring initiatives for startups and access to leading experts across industries and generate new investment and funding opportunities. .
• The collaboration will ensure that the selected startups perform well, develop their revenue streams and attract top talent.

• The state government has signed an MoU with Magic Bus India in August 2023 with an aim to promote life skills awareness education among students in all government schools in the state of Haryana.
• Magic Bus India Foundation through this MoU aims to train nearly 1400 teachers to improve the life skills of 80,000 youth in 700 government schools.

The oldest fossils of a herbivorous dinosaur have been found in the state of Rajasthan.

• Scientists from the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the IIT-Roorkee division jointly discovered the oldest fossil remains of a long-necked and herbivorous dicraeosaurid dinosaur in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan in August 2023.
• The GSI said that the landmass of India was a hotbed of dinosaur evolution and the nearly 167-million-year-old specimen was named “Tharosaurus Indicus” in reference to the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, western India.

India’s Shoan Ganguly has won the silver medal at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games.

• India’s Anupriya Valliyot and Shoan Ganguly have won bronze and silver medals respectively in the junior 400m individual medley at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinbago, Spain in August 2023.
• Notably, Ganguly retained his Indian best time of 4:25.47 seconds, edging out England’s Reece Grady(4:24:16 seconds).

World Biofuel Day 2023

• On August 9, 1893, Sir Rudolph Diesel operated a diesel engine for the first time with a mixture of peanut oil. Later it was designed as a diesel engine. Every year 10th August is celebrated as “World Biofuel Day” in honor of Sir Rudolf Diesel who invented the diesel engine.
• The day is observed to promote the use of biofuels and renewable energy sources over conventional energy sources. This day center does not mention any theme.
