Tuition centres and the plenty of programs they offer.

The first reason why parents want to send their children for tuition is the fact that maybe their children are not doing well in school. The ultimate aim is to help him or her to catch up with his or her peers. Lagging behind in academics can put undue pressure on students and ‘having tuition’ simply means is that a more personalized or customized attention is needed to steer the child in the right direction to perform well.

The other reason why parents like to send their children for tuition is that they want their kids to be at the top ranks, to be toppers of the cohort and to be ahead of their peers. This trend (though a little unhealthy) is common young Singaporean parents, which mainly arises from the idea of giving the best possible education and setting children on the fast-track from the beginning to avoid problems in future.

To cater to the needs and wants of parents and children, the tuition industry has explored and expanded itself in many ways. Apart from the hardcore academic training, tuition centres believe in the holistic development of children and hence, many tuition centres have extra programmes to ensure children are masters at their studies, mature in their minds and have a golden personality.

Such programmes include study camps, enrichment classes, study coach arrangement.

  • Study camps are designed to immerse your child in a wide variety of areas covering languages, arts and sciences. The idea of it is to explore and learn things out of the textbooks and notes to widen one’s horizon and this helps a lot in the way students perceive information and the way they process and internalise everything they learn.
  • Enrichment classes focus on equipping children with non-academic skills such as music, dance, speech and drama, art, robotics, cooking sports, etc. This is an excellent way for children to refresh and rejuvenate themselves and discover what other talents they have what other activities they are interested in. Quality breaks only motivate students to work harder in their academics.
  • Study coaches teach children how to study (the techniques) rather than the content of the studies itself; but this is not as common and in demand.

At the end of the day, the holistic development of a child is essential for the creation of a better future.
