Attendance Drops In Uttarakhand Schools As Teachers Test Covid Positive

The Uttarakhand govt. decided to reopen the schools of class 10 and 12 from November 2. There were a total of 3,791 secondary schools re-opened after lockdown-5. We shouldn’t miss the fact that it is the state with several Covid-19 measures in place.

However, the government made it mandatory for the schools to take the consent of the parents by taking their signatures. As per Uttarakhand Education Minister Arvind Pandey, the teaching format within the classrooms has been revised due to the pandemic situation. School management must take enough precautions for the COVID-19 situation.

When schools reopened no school got 100% Attendance even when they arranged proper sanitization. The classroom setting arrangement was done to maintain social distancing.

The state government of Uttarakhand is planning to get testing done for all students attending schools; however, the decision is still pending. After studying the logistical issues, the final decision will be made. The issues are the availability of the testing kits and the way to cover students from remote areas.

As per R Meenakshi Sundaram, secretary for education both education and health department are working together to solve the logistical issues.

The boarding school students who are returning from other states must undergo COVID testing. However, for the day scholars, it’s getting a little difficult to get testing done on all.

Meenakshi Sundaram also stated that there are almost 1 lac students are studying in 10 and 12. So, enough testing kits are needed as well as reaching out to students in the remotest area is crucial as well. Sundaram added that “we will ensure the studies of the students must not get impacted due to such issues”.

Sundaram stated that the district magistrates own the authority to decide on closing schools in their respective areas if the cases will increase significantly.

Sundaram also told, they are constantly monitoring the situation and in touch with all district magistrates. If there are cases in certain areas, they will do the contact tracings, and if needed they will close the schools. The decision can be taken area wise or state wise keeping the situation in mind.
