BIEC to be One of the Biggest COVID-Care Facilities in India

With the rising number of SARS-COV-2 cases rising in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The BBMP officials are preparing to open the largest Covid-Care-Centre (CCC) on the sprawling Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) campus situated in Tumkuru Road.

The authorities said over 10,100 beds facility will be provided for its residents and it is one of the biggest covid care centre in India. Until today, New Delhi’s Sardar Patel Covid Care Centre held the biggest care centre with around 10,000 beds.

The BIEC will accommodate asymptomatic to mildly symptomatic covid-19 patients.

Before the SOP from Centre, The BBMP had planned to set up 5,000 – 7,000 beds in BIEC Campus however as per the latest SOP they scaled up the number of beds. Sarfaraz Khan, a joint commissioner from BBMP said “According to the latest standard operating procedure released by the Centre says the one-metre distance between the beds is sufficient. So, we scaled up the capacity to 10,100 beds across five halls,”

The BIEC centre is well-ventilated with enough toilets, nursing stations, and kitchen facility which is necessary to attend asymptomatic patients said the Commissioner.

Speaking to the reporters, Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan said “We have decided to set up 10-bedded ICUs at every Covid Care Centre,” “In BIEC alone, a 100-bedded ICU will be set up with all medical facilities, including oxygen supply. By Monday, 7,000 beds will be ready to occupy and the remaining 3,000 beds will be added in a week.”

The civic body has set up LED Screens at every set, good quality food will be provided and separate dust bins to dispose plates. “High-tech toilets and washroom facilities have been provided at all the halls. Separate oxygen chambers have also been set up,” said K Narasimhamurthy, joint commissioner, Dasarahalli Zone.

Deputy Chief Minister also said “All medical staff have been relieved from their non-medical duty and directed to these clinical services. Additionally trained staffers will also be deployed at these Covid centers. If there are any more complaints about the quality of food, the suppliers will lose the contract without notice” said C N Ashwath Narayan who gave a strong warning to the suppliers.
