Why Different Types of Maps Exist

A Map is a representation of the landscape of the earth from an above view. It may also include other objects or aspects such as trees, roads, buildings, etc.

Since we may have various uses for maps, they cannot contain all the different types of information we need at the same time. Various domains of activity require different types of information from maps. This may require that maps should be as specific as possible.

A pilot may need a larger scale map for easy navigation in the sky while a hiker may need a smaller scale map so that he/she can see the details about the area in which he/she is hiking.

So different types of maps exist to provide the information needed by the user of the map. Map making depends on the needs of its users.
