Some schools offer teachers a small classroom budget each year, but many teachers end up paying for hundreds of dollars of supplies and materials out of their own pockets. We’ve assembled this list of retailers that offer discounts for teachers and school administrators to help you save when setting up and stocking your classroom.

Teacher Discounts on Classroom Supplies

Barnes & Noble’s Educator program will save you 20% on all purchases for classroom use. They also hold Educator Appreciation Days where they extend savings to 25%. You can sign up online here. 

The Container Store’s Organized Teacher Discount program presents teachers with exclusive offers all year long. You can verify your status easily to shop online, but you will need to present your teacher ID or teaching certificate to receive discounts in store.

Costco offers teachers a $30 Costco gift card when they sign up for a new membership. Teachers and school staff will need to verify their identity with SheerID.

Hobby Lobby offers teachers 10% off in stores when they pay with a school check or credit card. For more information, contact the manager of your local Hobby Lobby store.

Home Depot doesn’t offer a teacher discount, but they do allow you to make tax-exempt purchases with a school card or check. You can learn more about who is eligible and how to make a purchase on their website.

Joann Fabrics’ Teacher Reward program will save you 15% on purchases in stores and online. You can enroll online here.

Michaels offers 15% off in store and online for teachers and educators. Get started by verifying your teacher ID, and you’ll be able to enter your phone number at checkout for a hassle-free discount.

The New York Times provides teachers (and students) with 50% off unlimited digital subscriptions.

Overstock.com offers a free Club O subscription to teachers once they’ve used ID.me to verify themselves. Club O subscribers save on average $55 a year.

Party City offers tiered discounts for schools based on how much you spend. Save 10% when you spend $75 to $125, 15% when you spend $126 to $200, and save 20% on purchases $201+. Just keep in mind that to get the discount, you’ll need a letter on the official school letterhead signed by an officer of your school, and you must pay with a check or card in the name of the school as well.

Pencils.com offers teachers and school staff 10% off on all orders. For schools in need of further assistance, their Tools for Schools program can provide a pack of pencils for every student at your school.

Staples’ Classroom Rewards program allows students and parents to give back to their favorite educators when they make purchases. Enroll online as a teacher, encourage parents to enter their receipts, and you’ll receive 20% of their purchases in your rewards account. You’ll also get a $5 Staples gift card for signing up!

Thrive Market offers a number of perks for teachers, including free membership, exclusive offers, and access to their Healthy Hacks video series.

Clothing & Shoes

Banana Republic offers teachers 15% off regularly-priced purchases. The offer is good in stores with a teacher ID.

Cole Haan offers 20% off all items (including items already on sale) to teachers who register online with a “.edu” email address.

J.Crew offers 15% off all online orders for teachers. You’ll need to verify your identity online, and then you will be sent a unique coupon code to use at checkout.

LOFT offers teachers 15% off in-store purchases with a teacher ID. You can also sign up on their website to receive emails about exclusive perks just for teachers.
