Roots Millennium School is offering the Chinese Language as a mandatory subject starting from grade 3 till grade 8 with professional Chinese language teaching and trained Chinese Faculty from Henan Normal University. The course is designed in accordance with the acquisition and study rules of Chinese as a second language, with careful consideration of the features of primary school and middle school students’ cognitive development. It aims to stimulate students’ multiple intelligence. The Chinese language course employs various learning approaches including pictures, activities, exercise, songs and stories that center on the same topic so as to promote primary school and middle school students’ multi-intellectual development. Besides, it combines testing and teaching. Based on the syllabus of YCT (Youth Chinese Test) and HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test), the Chinese language course accomplishes the goals of “stimulating teaching with testing” and “promoting learning with testing” through the design of appropriate teaching content and exercise. The Chinese language course is designed to develop comprehensive abilities on listening, speaking, reading and writing. The Chinese Language teaching Integrates Communicative approach and emphasizes proper language expression, task-based concept that highlights the authenticity of the language in dialogue. The Chinese Language Textbooks and the resource material that is being used at Roots Millennium Schools have been prescribed by Henan Normal University in collaboration with Hanban Confucius Institute China. The Chinese YCT level 1 textbook is introduced in Grade 3 and goes on till grade 6 covering each YCT level in one academic year. The HSK Standard course 1 is introduced in grade 7 and goes on till grade 8 covering each HSK level in one academic year
