The sports day of our school was held on the 10th of December this year. The school field was well decorated, and we kept many chairs for the visitors. The sports began at 2 p.m. Many students took part in the competitions. All the races and the high jumps were fascinating. There was a balanced race for girls. At last, there was a tug of war between the students of classes VI and VII. After this, prizes were given away to the winners. Everybody cheered them by clapping. The day of the annual sports of our school is always fascinating for us.

The annual sports day is an essential part of school education. It can never be neglected at any cost. It is true that study is the primary objective of the school curriculum. But 'all work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy.' So co-curricular activities are provided to students to keep them active all the time. They are athletics, dramas, debates, and so on. Each school has an athletic association of its own. The students' representatives are its members. There is a Secretary duly elected by students to manage the show. The teacher for Physical education is there to guide the association in all athletic activities.
Athletics teaches students the value of cooperation and team spirit. The help them work together for their school. While taking part in games, every student plays as a member of their school team. This creates in them a sense of fellow-feeling and helps them work together for a common interest. This is very much helpful in their practical life. Sports instil in them the spirit of sportsmanship. A true sportsman accepts victory and defeats with a smile on his face. The students taking part in games and sports acquíre this spirit which enables them to face the challenges of life. It is said that the Battle of Waterloo was won on the play-field of Eton. So, taking part in athletics is quite useful to students in their life ahead.

Athletics is an essential part of school co-curricular activities. But an excess participation in it at the cost of studies will do more harm than good to one's life and career. So students should not think that athletics is the be-all and end-all of their life. They should in no case neglect their studies on the plea of athletics Every good athlete should always try to be good at studies. Then they will be able to carve out a good career in their life.
