Rajon Rondo has made his retirement from basketball official

The last official game of Rajon Rondo dates back to April 10, 2022, almost 2 years ago. Since then, with Cleveland’s elimination in the Play-in and subsequent free agency, the point guard has remained a free agent and in recent hours, host of the podcast All The Smoke, has made his retirement official, which could almost be taken for granted anyway, at age 38.

Rondo said he will spend more time with his family, particularly his children. His career spanned 16 years and saw him be among the best point guards in the NBA for a few years, as well as certainly the best passer. Selected with the 21st call at the 2006 Draft, Rajon Rondo remained with the Boston Celtics until December 2014, also winning a title in 2008 with the Big Three. In 2014 the move to Dallas, then Sacramento, Chicago, New Orleans and a two-year stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, culminating with a ring win in the Orlando “bubble” in 2020. Finally the last few years between Atlanta, Los Angeles (both Clippers and still Lakers) and finally Cleveland.

During these 16 years, Rondo was a 4-time All Star, 3 times led the NBA in assists and 1 time also in recoveries. He was listed twice in the best defensive quintet and once in the third best All-NBA quintet. Overall in his career he has maintained 9.8 points and 7.9 assists average, with five seasons in double figures for assists on average. Undoubtedly, many of his assists, creative and wildly popular especially during his years in Boston, have remained etched in the hearts and minds of many Celtics fans, and not only.
