The importance of Education in the society is such that cannot be overemphasized. To a large extent, education is the yardstick for success in the modern world. Don’t mix education with school. They are not necessarily the same thing. While the later has much to do with the traditional, cum brick-and-mortar routine of attending classes and sitting for examinations as a test of competence, education is much than that.

Education equips the whole man to function in the whole society. When you are educated, you are happy, you can think for yourself and you can solve problems. No arguments; an educated man is a successful man if he practicalizes his education. But this is just the tip of the iceberg when discussing the importance of education in the society.

There is a correlation between happiness and education. How? The society is the people therein and their relationships. When people in the society are educated, chances are that they are going to get better jobs with better pay cuts and a better level of satisfaction. This will also boost their social reputation and reasoning.

Education accounts for the economic growth of a society. A society with a very high literacy rate is more likely to have a lesser number of peopleliving below the poverty line. This is because of the capacity of the people to improvise, design and innovate solutions to their problems. With their level of education, also, they can further seek help outside, where need be, and better the socioeconomic status of their society.

Because education is a reformative tool and affects human reasoning, an educated society is bound to be more peaceful and morally stable. The role of education in morality cannot be overemphasized. When one knows the consequences of a wrong or illegal action(s), he/she is less likely to engage in things that will breach public peace and social stability.

It is lack of opportunities, which is unrelated to illiteracy that propels people to engage in crimes such as robbery, kidnapping, theft, rape etc. It is the role of education, therefore, to maintain sanity and sanctity in the society by drawing the line between the right and the wrong.

John F. Kennedyon January 20, 1961 made an outstanding Inaugural Address, “ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country”.But you cannot contribute to nation building without education. Even if you may, it will be very little. It is education that will help you to have a better understanding of your society.

Algebra, Geography, Arts, Science and Technology are articulated aspects of education which you can earn in the formal setting via schooling. With this education, you will know what the present and future problems of your society are, what needs to be fixed and how to fix them. You also stand a better chance to contribute meaningfully to your society’s growth and development.

You will only become an active member of your community and contribute to its growth process if you are educated. As such, the importance of education in the society cannot be overemphasized.

Education precedes mere schooling or class attendance. For the whole man to function in the whole society, live a happy life and contribute meaningfully to its growth, he/she must be properly educated.

The schools and colleges have been setup to provide formal education in the society, but does education end there? The obvious answer is No. Education is a life-ling process. Insofar as you breathe, you need quality education to breathe better (survive).

In fact, education is as important as the air you breathe, the food you take and the clothe you wear. If you can do without any of these, then, you can do without education. That is how important education is to the society.
