Monday Motivation: Spoken Words

Happy Monday y’all! For the month on December I am going back to basics and providing you with motivational blog posts each week. The topic for today’s Monday Motivation is “Spoken Words”

Word (noun):

A brief remark or conversation; something that is said (Merriam-Webster, 2018)

I remember it like it was yesterday. My guidance counselor said to me “With your ACT/SAT test scores you will only get accepted into a community college.” Those words hurt me. I thought to myself, but “I’m an honor roll student, I’m enrolled in honors courses, and she has the nerve to tell me my test scores will only get me into a community college.” Who does she think she is……….

It wasn’t until I was going through my checked baggage I realized that was one of many seeds that reinforced the stronghold of inadequacies I  possessed. I gave power to those “spoken words”. For years, I lived my life trying to prove to people that I was good enough because of things that were said to me.

How many times has what someone said to you made you feel some type of way? What have you said to others that may have discouraged them?

Be mindful of your spoken words………….
