Lilavati algebra is a Gift from India. 

You are happy to give Teddy Bear to your children, but know that thousands of years ago  , in 1150 AD, a father gave a gift to his Daughter which made her immortal. Father's name was Bhaskaracharya and daughter was Lilavati. 

Bhaskaracharya was an astrologer. On seeing his daughter's horoscope, he found Vaidya dosha. Vaidivya dosha which is the reason for the woman to become a widow. For its prevention, he modified the Muhurta, after which his marriage was fixed in the auspicious time. 

At that time a water clock was used to see the time. Like today's sand clock, there was also a similar type of water clock.

Unfortunately, the water flow of the water clock got blocked and the auspicious time passed and the sacrifice took place in the yoga. 

When Bhaskaracharya came to know about this after marriage, he was very sad. He vowed to make his daughter self-reliant and started teaching mathematics.

Whatever Bhaskaracharya ji taught to Lilavati would have been in a poetic form. From the compilation of all these, 1 book was formed. Lilavati became an accomplished mathematician and the book  was named Lilavati to immortalize her name. 

In reading this book, it does not look like a book of mathematics but a poetry book. Which has lyrical verses.

Bhaskaracharya asks question to his daughter 

Shiva, Vishnu and Surya were worshiped from the third, fifth and sixth of a group of pure lotuses, respectively, Parvati was worshiped from the fourth quarter and Guru's feet were worshiped with the remaining six lotuses. Come on, Bale Leelavati, tell me how many flowers were there in that lotus cluster?' Answer – 120 lotus flowers.
