The weather here in England has been quite sad for the past few days – we had one beautiful, sunny and warm spring day and for the first time since I moved here I actually had to take some clothes off as it was getting too hot. That didn’t last long, and here I am two days later, on my couch, wrapped in a warm blanket listening to the windows shudder from the strong winds outside. But I still want summer, so the best way to get it is through a nice cup of tea. Today I am indulging in a Green Rooibos with Peach and Cherry Flavours bought from my local grocery shop because nothing feels like summer than peaches and cherries!

Unlike the usual Rooibos, the so called red one, green rooibos is much lighter, with a faint hint of honey which is much more pronounced in the “red” variety. It also feels more herbal, grassy. This is due to the fact that green rooibos is not oxidized or fermented. The peach flavour sits very well in this bouquet and the cherry note is really what lingers in your mouth afterwards. This is a very successful combination of flavours with the rooibos serving as the base, the peach bringing a touch of sophistication and the cherry rounding it all together as the ultimate summer beverage. I am sold! Also, I’ve gone through half the caddy already.

Is there caffeine in rooibos tea?

For those who wonder whether rooibos contains caffeine, the answer is short – it doesn’t. Rooibos tea, either red or green, doesn’t contain caffeine but only a small percentage of tannin (that substance which makes your mouth feel dry). Therefore this is a drink you can enjoy in the evenings, before going to sleep. It is my preferred choice of herbal tea after six o‘clock and a nice touch to end the day.
