Staying In This Autumn Just Got Easier With These Cocktails

Ah Fall, the leaves continue to turn and drift to the ground, summer heat (at least where I live) has finally relented, replaced by a lovely chill in the air.

Not to mention pumpkin spice flavors are everywhere, and there is a bounty of apples, figs, sweet potatoes, and autumn spices to be enjoyed.

With this changing of the season, one thing I have long enjoyed and am sharing with you today is the ingenuity and creativeness, bartenders demonstrate with Fall cocktail ingredients. (Yes, this is a thing.)

This article is going to share a small selection of Seasonal Rum cocktails with you that generously provided by some wonderful bartenders that will help get you in the mood for the festive season ahead.

1. Autumn Blossom

by Shane McClean of the Copperstill bar - St Philip Barbados

The first cocktail is a drink that explores the delicate balance of sweet and spicy fall flavors in a single drink.

Ingredients

3 dashes of Angustora Aromatic Bitters
1.5 oz Doorly’s XO
1 oz Sweet Potato liqueur
4 pieces of Bell Pepper

Method

Muddle bell pepper 2 times
Add liquids and ice
Stir cocktail until chilled
Strain
Glass: Rock / Old Fashioned Glass
Garnish: bell pepper
Ice( king cube)

2. Breakfast Fizz

by Francisco Perez of the Veritas bar at the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel

Our second cocktail is a tasty libation created by Francisco Perez, it is excellent any time of day, especially anyone desiring a Highball cocktail with brunch.

Ingredients

1.5 oz Don Q Gran Anejo
.75 oz Banana liqueur
.25 oz Espresso
.75 oz Lemon juice
.50 oz Cardamom
.75 oz Cream
.75 oz Egg white
Orange bitters
Cacao shavings
Ice

Method

Glass: Highball
Garnish: Cacao Shavings
First shake with three to six cubes of ice (if the ice is form a kold draft machine), otherwise shake with a scoop full of ice. Then remove the ice and shake again hard for 30 to 40 seconds.

Pro Tip - For best foam consistency and if time is not an issue, let the cocktail rest in the Collins glass (preferably inside a fridge) for about two minutes before topping with soda.

3. Merry Drinkery

by Danilo Bozovic of the Swizzle Rum Bar & Drinkery, Miami Florida

One of the things I have learned in 2019 is the great flavors that happen when unexpected alcohols are mixed. In this next cocktail Rum, Scotch, and Vermouth are blended along with the other ingredients to create flavors that captures the essence of fall, with a slight nod to the holidays to come.

Ingredients

1 ¼ oz Probitas Rum
½ oz Single Malt Scotch
½ oz Chai Infused Sweet Vermouth
¾ oz Homemade Fig Puree
½ oz Simple syrup
½ oz Fresh Lemon Juice
5 dashes Angostura bitters
Ice

Method

Shaken
Glass: Rock / Old Fashioned
Garnish: lemon wedge & flamed cinnamon stick

Special thanks to the Bartenders who provided the recipes for this article. All of the cocktails have relatively easy ingredients to acquire and require no exotic equipment or tools to make.
