What’s surprising for some wine lovers (but not for those who already love these wines), is that reds from the Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOCG area are capable of packing such a punch, and aging so well, that they can stand toe-to-toe with many older Barolos and Barbarescos.

What?!?? The humble Barbera making a wine as powerful and stately as Nebbiolo?

Believe it! We went so far as to call Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOCG the Incredible Hulk of Monferrato area reds. You can thank the DOCG’s stringent and specific production and aging requirements for this transformation, which transmogrifies the mild-mannered, fruity, and affable Barbera into a big, strong, and very, very serious superhero of a wine. Visual proof is, of course, provided in the video (unfortunately, you won’t be able to join me in actually tasting the Barbera d’Asti Superiore DOCG wine in that vid; so you’ll just need to buy some for yourself and wait… and wait.. and wait…).
