All About The World-Famous Country Music Duo

Tyler Hubbard of Georgia and Brian Kelley of Florida are two vocalists and songwriters who formed the American country music group Florida Georgia Line in 2010. Florida Georgia Line’s two members were first drawn to music through church sessions.

Brian Kelley, a Florida native from Ormond Beach, was a standout pitcher for his high school baseball team and received a scholarship to Florida State University. After realizing he would not be successful in baseball, he later changed his school to Belmont University.

Tyler Hubbard, a Monroe, Georgia, native who led church worship, started the hip hop ensemble Ingenious Circuit when he was still a teenager. Growing up, the two were interested in a wide range of musical genres: “Me and my friends drove trucks, listened to Garth Brooks, Alabama, Lil Wayne, and Eminem,” recalled Kelley.

How Did Their Journey Began Together?

After graduating, the pair resolved to give themselves two years to flourish as a country couple. They first met at Belmont University in 2008 through a campus worship group. They moved in together and started working odd jobs to pay the rent and other expenses, playing clubs on the weekends.

They produced Anything Like Me, their debut EP, independently, and distributed it digitally (2010). The three started going into the studio together after being seen by Nickelback producer Joey Moi at a local fair.

The group spent days perfecting the tracks for the duo’s second EP, It’z Just What We Do, in contrast to usual country music sessions.
