WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 6!

Over the course of Yellowstone’s five seasons, the cast has become like a family to many viewers, who see themselves as a part of the Dutton family.

Because of this, it can be very hard to say goodbye to any of the characters we’ve grown to know and love since the show started in 2018.

In Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 6, this is what happened to Emmett Walsh, but who was he and what did he do?

Who is Emmett Walsh on Yellowstone?

Emmett Walsh was a rancher with a lot of experience from Montana. He had known John Dutton for a long time.

He was in the first episode of Yellowstone, which aired in 2018, and has been in a few more episodes since then, for a total of eight.

Emmett was the head of both the Stockgrowers Association and the Montana Fish and Game Department.

Buck Taylor will play Emmett in the series. He has a lot of experience working in Westerns, but his most famous role was as Newly O’Brian in over 100 episodes of the CBS show Gunsmoke from 1967 to 1975.

Buck Taylor was born on May 13, 1938, in Hollywood, California, United States. He is best known for his role in the CBS TV show Gunsmoke as gunsmith-turned-deputy Newly O’Brian. He is the son of actor Dub Taylor and actress Florence Gertrude Heffernan.

Taylor went to North Hollywood High School and became a good gymnast while he was there. As a gymnast, actor Guinn “Big Boy” Williams paid for him to go to the U.S. Olympic Trials, but he didn’t make it into the 1960 Summer Olympics. He was in the U.S. Navy for two years.

In the 1961 episode “Image of a Drawn Sword” of Dick Powell’s Zane Grey Theatre, he played Trooper Shattuck, which was his first important role. His other early roles were in “Don’t Open Till Doomsday,” an episode of The Outer Limits from 1964, and as John Bradford (Brad) in four episodes of The Monroes, an ABC Western from 1966.

Cattle Round-Up in Episode 6

In Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 6, everyone on the Dutton ranch gets together for a yearly event called “the gathering” to round up the cattle that have been roaming free all winter.

Every cowboy who could help was called in. This included John, who took a much-needed break from his job as governor of Montana, and Emmett Walsh, who had been his friend for a long time.

As John and Emmett camped out under the big Montana sky, Walsh told them how important it was for Montana to have a cowboy like John as its governor.

What Happened to Emmett Walsh in Yellowstone?

Emmett Walsh died while he was sleeping in episode 6 of the Fifth Season of Yellowstone.

The night before, John and Emmett had a conversation that made him think. When John woke up the next morning, he found that Emmett had died during the night.

Walsh died of natural causes after a long life of dealing with the hard work of running a ranch. There was no foul play involved.

John was eager to note that Emmett died as he would have wished: “on the trail, like every cowboy dreams.”

After Emmett died, John went back to the ranch to tell Walsh’s wife about it. A news crew that John’s assistant Clara had invited to the upcoming branding event caught the moment on film.

Yellowstone Season 5 airs every week on the US and international Paramount Network.
