Crazy Duck Brewery

And we are back to our Slovene microbrewery, Pivovarna, tour with the Crazy Duck brewery. Settle in 2016 in the Slovenian Municipality of Žiri. They produce 5 different brews and we tried 3 of them, the Mighty Duck (a Ruby Ale), the Crazy Duck (a 1 hour Crazy IPA) and the Ugly Duckling (A Oatmeal Stout). You can find more about them on there website here (Only in Slovene unfortunately).

We start with the Crazy Duck, the one hour Crazy IPA. 60-minute IPO, which means that the brewers constantly added hops during the brewing for 60 minutes straight.

The Beer greets you with a slight smell of sweet fruits. The beer pours with a thick dark amber body and a thick white crown. It has some note of pine together with a solid malt base, which is more pronounced at the beginning.  There is a bitterness from the very beginning to the very end.  It’s a fine drink and the Beard Warrior can see himself drink more than one in a row and still enjoy the taste.

We give it a beard score of 4/5:

Then we tried the Mighty Duck a Ruby Ale. Quite less of ale and more of a stout in reality. The beer comes thick dark brown with a foam fest on top. The beer has been described as :

“Soft and delicate beer with a lower degree of roasting, as is usual for a stout. In addition, oats are added to the beer, which, together with a higher degree of alcohol, have a good effect on the fullness and overall structure of the beer.” (Source here in Slovene)

Well, the Beard warrior would not really agree with the soft and delicate part of the beer. The first roasted and malted tastes come in strong and heavy and stay on the pallet while it leaves you a nice bitterness on the tongue. Overall it is a good solid beer and we liked it. We give it a 3/5 beard score:

And we finish with the Ulgy Duckling an oatmeal stout. And well here its branded as a stout and taste like a stout, ironically it does taste less like a stout than the Crazy Duck. We would qualify this beer as a soft and delicate beer. In comparison with the previous one no strong taste come straight away and instead you have a small roast and chocolate flavours coming in and a lasting malt staying in the mouth.

Overall this would be a good lazy afternoon or slow evening beer. The taste is not heavy and you could easily drink a whole pack without realising it. We give it a 3/5 beard score:
