Why you should always try to shop Fairtrade

“Before you’ve eaten breakfast in the Morning, you’ve depended on more than half the world” – Martin Luther King Jnr, 1967

So this is hopefully the first of many posts. If you’re reading this, then thank you for taking the time to do so.

As I mention in my ‘about’ page, Coffee goes on quite the journey before it lands in our cups of a morning, and its life always begins with the farmers. In fact most of us rely on produce from all over the world to prepare us from the day ahead. But when it comes to morning coffee, Colombia is one of my favourite regions. Its chocolatey undertones along with the strong nutty kick, make it my go-to region for a weekday morning brew, it’s a nice comfort blanket to prepare me for the working week.

What I love most about Colombian coffee though, is its continuing efforts as a region to support Fairtrade farming. If you think Fairtrade is just a colourful badge on your coffee pack, think again. Here’s how your Fairtrade purchase has a direct impact on the lives of families like the Blandón and their coffee farm.

Do you buy Fairtrade? Let me know in the comments and also let me know what your favourite coffee producing region is
