5 Predictions for Tea and Coffee in 2017

Tags: coffee

Looking into 2017, what does the future hold for tea and coffee?

Here are our five predictions for the tea and Coffee industry for 2017.

Advances in the Way You Pay for Your Coffee

The UK Cards Association states that there are a total of 101.8m contactless cards in issue in the UK. With the introduction of new technologies such as contactless, we predict the advance of technology will dramatically change the method in which you pay for your coffee. Starbucks have already created an app which allows you to pay for your coffee ahead of time.  This allows you to pick up your coffee straight away and skip the usual tiresome coffee shop ques that you might experience.

A Rise in Coffee Subscriptions and Consumption at Home

There is also the prediction that there will be a rise in coffee subscriptions with coffee consumption becoming more popular in the home.

Increased Interest in the Quality of Coffee

Another coffee trend for 2017 could be that consumers will become more interested in the quality of the coffee that they are drinking. This might mean that coffee shops choose to sell more rare and unique varieties of coffee to increase competition against other retailers in the coffee industry.

With this increased interest, there is also now a focus on tea and coffee storage. With many different variations of tea and coffee, there are new and innovative ways of storing teas and coffee coming out. You can see Keurig’s range of storage accessories here, ideal for offices.

Tea and Coffee Infused Cocktails

Keurig also predict that coffee and tea will become a more prominent ingredient in cocktails. For example this is on Forbe’s list of best spirits and cocktails for 2017 and research by Mintel states that consumers between the age of 22-34 want to see more coffee shops serving alcohol in 2017. Whilst the espresso martini is not a revolution, bars could potentially start to come up with new ways of incorporating coffee and alcohol into interesting beverages.

Increased Availability of Nitro Coffee

Following Starbuck introducing Nitro Cold Brew this summer, our last prediction for 2017 is that more brands will make Nitro Coffee more readily available. Could this trend also develop into Nitro Tea as well?
