Day 1 (Auckland) of a 6-Day Itinerary of New Zealand’s North Island

Auckland Waterfront as seen from Mt Victoria

Day 1: Arrival in Auckland. Depending on the time of your arrival, try visiting Cornwall Park. and One Tree Hill. The latter is a misnomer, the tree having been removed. Still, you will have a wonderful view and introduction of Auckland from here. Cornwall Park is a beautiful garden, most pleasant in spring and summer. Enjoy an alfresco lunch or afternoon tea at the cafe and relax here after a long flight into New Zealand.

Or, for an even higher perspective of Auckland, visit Sky Tower. For at 200m above ground, you will be treated to a 360° bird’s-eye view of Auckland City. Admission charges apply. Sunset is probably the best time to go. Or, if you are an adrenaline junkie, do either the SkyJump – bungy jumpy from Sky Tower, or the tamer SkyWalk – a walk along a thin platform on the outside of Sky Tower. For those who would prefer to take in the view while enjoying a meal, try Obit 360° or The Sugar Club.

I honestly doubt you have much time left for the day, or for that matter, energy. So, rest up for the night and rise early the next day for the next leg of this itinerary.
