Balmoral on York, Launceston

As we would be arriving late into Launceston, so, I was looking for somewhere warm for the night, and located fairly near the airport and close to the shops.

So, after reading through countless reviews about the accommodations available in Launceston, I have finally settled on Balmoral on York. The deciding factor was because that it received a very high rating on booking.com and also because the price was right and even comes with a continental breakfast.

Did it live up to the raves? Sort of.

The Pros: The room was big and generally clean and there were adequate number of power points. There was a TV with Netflix, an efficient Heat Pump and even a small pantry. It even has a attached smaller room with an extra bed for a third person. The mattress was firm but not overly hard and comfortable. The service was friendly, especially at breakfast. There was free parking as well. Restaurants, like the Black Cow Bistro and Woolsworth supermarket are just 10 minutes’ walking distance away. The continental breakfast was light but adequate.

The Cons: While the headboard was dust free, the heat pump was not serviced and was very dusty. Perhaps the heat pump is serviced under an external contract and not by housekeeping, but the filter definitely needs cleaning. The hotel is housed in an older-style building with no plastering on the walls, making the place look somewhat dated and like an old prison building.

Conclusion: For the price, location and friendly service, I would still stay at Balmoral on York the next time I visit Launceston. It would be awesome if they can update the rooms a bit, it would be visually a lot more pleasant.
