FROZEN in a Magical Journey

When the temperatures fall, days become shorter and a change in wardrobe is in order. Though the cold, gloomy winters brighten the travel season across the Indian peninsula. A string of holidays with a busy festival season and a drop in mercury levels give way to romantic sojourns, postcard-like destinations, and family outings. It may be difficult to zero down on a location due to the endless options, but there is one you can partner with for an assured extraordinary experience — The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group presents Wonderous Winters in Srinagar.

Once upon a time, this glorious piece of architecture was called Gulab Bhavan. Today, it is revered as The Lalit Grand Palace, Srinagar. A royal abode in the 20th century, the palace was built by Maharaja Pratap Singh in 1910. Later his nephew, Maharaja Hari Singh, decorated it with the finest furniture, upholstery, ethnic carpets, handicrafts, and works by local artisans. The palace holds a significant place in India’s history. Lord Mountbatten has been a guest at the palace in 1947 and stayed in the Viceroy and Vicereine Suites. The courtyard at the palace is home to an ancient Chinar Tree, which has stood the test of time. This tree was witness to a meeting between Mahatma Gandhi and Maharaja Hari Singh. It was in 1956 that Maharaja Hari Singh shifted to Mumbai, and The Gulab Bhavan was converted into The Grand Palace, Srinagar.

The palace is home to local treasures like paper mache art and wooden carvings. Though, the most striking feature of The Lalit Grand Palace Srinagar is the massive chandelier that adorns the lobby. Its beauty is remarkable, and the sheer size makes it an outstanding piece that cannot be missed.

The property transports you to a magical royal era. In the morning over breakfast on the lawns, you are greeted by the sight of the Himalayan range and Dal Lake.
