Did you know that my family’s #1 destination when I was little was Niagara Falls?

It is always nice to visit iconic locations like Niagara Falls as a family. Seeing something special like these extraordinary waterfalls together creates wonderful memories. Your kids will really appreciate the fact you have taken them to see landmarks like these as well as taken them camping and for beach holidays.

But, there is a huge amount to do and see there. So, it is essential that you do a little extra planning, before visiting such a big tourist destination.

Where to stay

The temptation is always there to skimp on the accommodation, to stay in a B&B or a reasonably priced hotel. This is understandable and there is no harm in doing that. But, as you can see from this website, staying in a five-star hotel is not as expensive as you might think. So, it is likely that you will be able to afford at least one night in a hotel room that has a view of the waterfalls.

Your kids will never forget standing in a room looking out over the Niagara Falls, at night, with fireworks going off all around. It is a truly magical site, so if you can afford to treat them to a night in a Fallsview hotel room, why not do it?

Seeing the Falls

You are there to see the waterfalls, so make that your priority. There are lots of fun ways to do it. The boat trips seem to be the most popular with families. During your trip, you get taken right up to the base of the Falls. So close in fact, that you need to wear a poncho while on deck getting your photos. Kids love it. If you’ve got slightly older children the Whirlpool Jet Tour is an exhilarating option.

Not everyone likes boats, which is not a problem because there are lots of other ways to see the Niagara Falls. There is a walking tour that takes you literally behind the waterfalls. You then pop out onto a walkway which takes you to within yards of the cascading water.

There are also viewing platforms that enable you to see the waterfalls close up and from above. The view from the revolving restaurant in the Skylon tower is also good. They cater really well for families, so if you want to turn one of your lunches into an experience, head there.

Letting off steam elsewhere

The chances are that your children will enjoy seeing the falls a couple of different ways. But, they won’t want to spend two days experiencing them in every single way.

So, you will need to plan to do some other things. Fortunately, there is no shortage of things to do and see in the area.

The water parks are particularly good. On a rainy day, the Fallsview Indoor Water Park fills up but is still a lot of fun.

Enjoy a show

Wherever you go, keeping the kids occupied in the evenings is tricky. A lot of the attractions are closed by the early evening. Fortunately, there are lots of shows for you to take your kids to. Greg Frewin’s magic show is particularly good. You can also have fun playing crazy golf, in the evenings.

Get close to nature

The nice thing about this area is that you are never far from nature. So, if you like hiking, cycling or riding as a family you can do those things. The Butterfly Conservatory is good too.
