Cordonices Park, Berkeley

If you're looking for a great place to picnic with family - Cordonices Park may just be what you are looking for. A hidden gem in Berkeley - its a little park on the hillside with a play area, picnic areas, hiking trails and a tunnel!

We really went there one weekend to try the 40 feet concrete Slide - prepared with a big cardboard box. it was a suprise for our 11 year old, who promptly thought he was too old to try it. With a little encouragement he did try it and then of course never wanted to stop! The slide comes down part of the hill side in a gentle curve, and  you can climb up by stairs near the slide or by going back along the trail. There a typically a lot of kids of all ages on it including toddles, and parents with their toddlers. If you can bring a cardboard box along do, but again there are often a couple of cardboard boxes lying around near the slide.

We walked about for a while and watched the kids play for a while, and then the tunnel beckoned. It a very charming tunnel below the road, that connects to the Berkeley Rose Garden, tennis courts etc on the other side.

A magical park  - for little ones - with the 40 feet Concrete Slide and for the the not so little ones - a beautiful rose garden on the other side of the tunnel. Unfortunately for us it was not rose season when we visited, but you can tell from the layout that this would be a great garden to see in summer, so we'll come back then and blog about it after :).
