Hakone Gardens at Saratoga

Hakone Gardens is a traditional Japanese Garden in Saratoga, California. It started off as a private residential garden, and is recognized as one of the oldest residential Japanese garden in the Western hemisphere. We visited this garden in November 2020 - since we were still in the thick of COVID restrictions, the picnic tables were closed, and walking through the garden was a marked, follow-one-way affair. Despite that, the garden was wondrous to explore. Since we have had warm weather here in California, fall colors were still on display too!

2020 has been hard. We have been fortunate that all of us are safe, but the continuous stress of rising cases and deaths has been tiring. Online school isn't great, however hard everyone tries. Still, one good thing that came out of this year - we managed to keep up our hikes through this year - indeed, they have been the brightest spot of each week, and the only thing that helped us to mark the passage of time. Covid-19 isn't going away anytime soon, but the vaccines are arriving and going into 2021, there is a sense of hope - hope that less people will fall sick, workplaces and schools will reopen. I don't know when we will be able to take a vacation/road trip again, but till then, we plan to continue to go on our weekly outings (masked et al.) and share the memories here. Looking forward to a safer and saner 2021!
