Ready For Some Memphis-Style BBQ?

Are you ready for some Memphis-style BBQ?

I just came home from one of my very favorite shops in Downtown Franklin – Savory Spice Shop and I can tell you for sure that they’re ready for some BBQ! But first a funny story…

When I first moved here I remember telling someone that I was going to BBQ and I got surprised look. The woman I was talking to said, “You know how to BBQ? That’s really unusual for a woman and especially one from California!” She then went on to ask me what type of wood I used in my smoker and it suddenly dawned on me that I GRILL. I don’t BBQ!

In the South, BBQ is some serious business and you best not be telling anyone that you BBQ when in fact, all you do is start up the grill!

Back to Savory Spice Shop which is now my go-to shop for all my spices. It’s literally a mecca of yumminess. You’ll find a huge assortment of delectable rubs for every type of meat…sugars like you’ve never tasted before – think bourbon barrel sugar…sea salts galore…a variety of black peppers and yes…peppers of all kinds. Sauces a plenty line their shelves and a whole lot more, but here’s the best part…you can taste everything before you make a purchase. They sort of frown on that in regular grocery stores.

I promise you though…once you’ve used the spices available here, you’ll never go back because your food will be elevated in ways you can’t imagine.

I’m just going to tell you that my dear friend, Hollie Rollins and her team, really care about bringing you a special shopping experience. Plan to spend some time in Savory Spice Shop.

Now Are You Ready for Some BBQ?

Let’s face it BBQ is good anytime of the year, but there’s something about summer and Savory Spice Shop is celebrating all things BBQ with their Chasing BBQ series celebrating the art of great BBQ and June is all about Memphis. Personally I’m a huge fan of Memphis-style BBQ because it’s a dry rub and I love how it just falls off the bone and I get to pick the sauce.

Have you wanted to learn how to actually BBQ? Well, now you can because on Saturday June 25th beginning at 7:00pm, Savory Spice Shop is hosting a BBQ class where you’ll learn from the pros, Justin & Paul, a BBQ Team, called No Pig Deal!

In this class, you’ll learn everything from A – Z about BBQ – beginning with exactly what to buy when you go to the store.

And yes, there will be eating. As Hollie told me, “We definitely eat!”

In addition to amazing BBQ (focus on pork) there will be mouth-watering side dishes and desserts.

Bring a chair…dress in comfortable cool clothes because you’re outside and plan to learn a lot and then indulge your culinary taste buds.

At the time of this writing , there were 10 spaces available. The cost is $25 per person. That’s a bargain because not only do you get to learn the ins and outs of BBQ, but you also get to EAT! To make a reservation, please call 615.472.8980

Savory Spice Shop is located at 324 Main Street in Downtown Franklin.

Can’t Make It? Here Are a Few Recipes to Try at Home

If you want to try your hand at BBQ at home, here’s a great recipe courtesy of Savory Spice Shop.

What to serve with your friends? Try this Memphis-style Mustard Slaw, again from Savory Spice Shop.

Throw some corn on the grill to round out your dinner.

For dessert…oh my gosh…try these Grilled Peaches with the Georgia Peach Spice. I have this spice and it’s out of this world!

Y’all have a great weekend, okay?
