One of My Favorite Summer Events!

Y’all one of my Favorite Summer Events is about to begin – the Carnton Sunset Concert Series. Have you been? If not, I really think you should consider adding this to your summer calendar.

I’ll get to the music later in this post, but first, this was one of the very first activities we attended shortly after we arrived – like 10 days or something. I know my house was still filled with boxes and I’m not sure I had really found my undergarments, but nonetheless, off we went to Carnton.

The music is excellent, but truly…it’s the setting. Here you are with family and friends enjoying a picnic on the grounds of historic Carnton. There’s something so special about being able to do this. I love sitting in my lawn chair, sipping some wine, breaking bread with friends and watching the magical Franklin sunsets.

But…the very BEST part for this West Coast girl is once the sun sets…the fireflies make their grand appearance! Now I don’t know about you, but I find fireflies magical!

Here’s what you do…

Gates open at 5:00 so come early and pick your perfect spot. If you want to be close to the music, head out by the stage. If you want to chat with friends, stay closer to the Front Porch of the house.

Concert begins at 6pm and ends at 8pm.

Pack a picnic. Some people are pretty elaborate with their set-up. I prefer simple with less clean-up. Do not bring a grill or your pets.

Bring a few blankets and chairs. You’ll be way more comfortable.

Food and drinks are available for purchase on site, including beer and wine. Last year there were bourbon drinks too. (It is the South after all.)

Admission is $10 per person in advance or $12 at the door. Children under 5 are free.  Tickets are non-refundable. What about inclement weather you might ask? They do everything they can to reschedule the concert. Bad weather hasn’t happened to me yet, but you never know.

Free Parking is available on the grounds.

Gone are the days for me when I pack elaborate picnics. I learned that at the time it tastes great, but lugging all the mess home is not worth it. So here’s what I’ll be packing (or something similar) for our picnics at one of my Favorite Summer events.

The Music

All concerts are on the last Sunday of the summer months and the first one is coming up.

June 26 – Zippy’s Clutch – awesome Rockabilly and early Rock n’ Roll. You can check them out here.

July 31 – Resurrection: A Journey Tribute  (This concert definitely has my name written all over it.)

August 28 – Chris Weaver Band – mix of Motown and Country)

Hope I see you there!
