Do you love seeing individuals working in their magic…when they’re living the gifts that have been bestowed to them…when everything flows and confidence and grace are  a natural part of life? I absolutely love it and more importantly, I’m inspired by it.

I did not know before moving what a mecca of creativity Franklin is. I never cease to be amazed by the people I meet. Really, like amazed! 

So not only is Franklin simply one of the most beautiful places, but the people here, are well…quite remarkable. 

And yesterday, I had the blessing of being in the presence another such individual. 

So by now, y’all know that I love horses (all animals really), but horses hold a special place in my heart. And you also know that I’m pretty enamored with Leiper’s Fork, so when the two come together, I’m pretty much in Heaven!

And yesterday was one of those days. After a couple of weeks of freezing temps, rain, snow and ice, yesterday gave us a little relief…sunny skies…billowy clouds and temps in the 50’s made for a surprising winter day. Along the drive to Leiper’s Fork I was stopped by wild turkey, two herd of deer crossing the road and sheep that I think had escaped, but who knows…anything is possible in Leiper’s Fork. 

I do not have pics of any of these animals because sometimes I like to stop and take it all in. 

I arrive at the Blazer Farm – a beautiful 50+ acre farm where Martha Stowe, (her husband Kurt and their children) lives and works her magic with horses. 

Martha grew up with horses and was raised in the wide open spaces of Colorado. She wanted to be a country music singer, but as often happens, apparently God had other plans for her. 

She and Kurt moved to Tennessee 18 years ago and they lived in community development where Martha was pretty miserable. She missed the openness. “I couldn’t breathe.”

She hit a low point and one day, while soaking in the bathtub, she asked God what she was supposed to be doing. You should know that Martha is a God Warrior. She prays hard and she listens even more closely. 

So there she was in her bathtub filled with bubbles asking for God’s guidance and suddenly, “a horse showed up in the bubbles,” she told me. And she said out loud, “Ok, I can do that.” 

Soon thereafter, equine doors began opening – first as a horse wrangler at a ranch…exercising horses for $10 an hour, but very soon this would all change. 

You see she has a connection with horses that is deeper than the surface. She feels them and she feels responsible for their total well being when they are in her presence. 

Her calling was to be way bigger than exercising horses. Martha’s calling is horse restoration – not just  recovery from injury, but because of her deep level of connection, she restores them physically, mentally and emotionally, through a variety of techniques.

She does this at Blazer Farm or on location through her business True Equine. 

Other than simply watching her interact with the horses in her care, the most fascinating technique is Equine Myofascial Release, which is a laying of hands on the horse to release physical pain and emotional trauma. 

I watched her perform a session with Eugene and I’m sorry to keep saying it, but it was magical. 

I know you want to know how this happens and what it does, but I’m going to ask you to be a little bit patient. Think of this as good book that you don’t want to have end.

I rarely do this, but Martha’s story deserves more than one post. Will you come back on Wednesday when I share with you how she even came to know about Myofascial Release?
