Keswick Cottages | The best of the Lake District

Keswick cottages are extremely popular with tourists to the Lake District due to the towns’ fantastic heritage, laid back ambiance and abundance of tourist attractions and things to do so close to the holiday home.

With an array of walks in the neighbouring countryside and great places to eat and drink in the historic market town itself, it’s no wonder Keswick cottages are in such high demand.

Cottage Escapes boasts a fantastic choice of Keswick cottages perfect for small groups and large families, all 4 and 5 star VisitEngland approved and a lot of them welcome pets as well.

But why is Keswick such a popular destination for cottage holiday makers?

Why Keswick cottages are the perfect Lake District base

Keswick sits just within the northern quarter of the Lake District National Park, and is just a short drive from more central Lakeland attractions such as Borrowdale, Thirlmere Lake and Honister Pass.

There is actually more going on within the local Keswick vicinity than most other Lake District areas though, with a plethora of attractions within the town with its museum, parks and the popular Theatre by the Lake.

Just to the north of Keswick is the picturesque village of Threlkeld, whilst to the south west and within walking distance is the stunning Derwentwater and surrounding countryside.

Whinlatter Forest is just a short hike to the west, whilst some of the most popular walks from Keswick sit to the north of the town. The imposing Skiddaw and Blencathra fells and peaks rise up on the horizon and are the perfect backdrop for this historic town, with Keswick cottages just a stones-throw away from some of the most revered and well trodden country trails and walks in the region.

And if that wasn’t enough, slightly farther out to the south-west sits the impressive Grasmoor and Grisedale Pike ranges, whilst a few miles north lies Bassenthwaite Lake and the National Nature Reserve.

On the doorstep of our Keswick cottages

Once you’ve travelled the Lakelands and explored the local countryside however it’s always nice to relax a little closer to home in the town itself. The town of Keswick itself Is so popular with thousands of tourists each year because there is so much to do without having to get in the car or don the hiking boots.

There is an abundance of great local produce shops in the town for picking up fresh supplies ahead of a Sunday lunch back at the cottage, and there are also a good number of galleries, bookshops and craft stalls to explore too.

A number of great pubs and breweries also call Keswick home. The White Horse Inn, The Dog and Gun, The Bank Tavern and the Packhorse Inn are just some of the more popular taverns where local ales and hearty fresh food can be found.

Keswick is also home to some of the Lake District’s most popular annual events as well. Keswick Mountain Festival is celebrated each May, with live music, beer tents and sporting events taking place against one of the most stunning and picturesque backdrops imaginable.

Each Christmas, the Keswick Christmas Lights also add a touch of festive magic to the towns’ streets with tourists and locals gathering in the main square to enjoy live music and lantern parade.
