Key Information UK Citizens Need to Know When Traveling to Nepal.

There are many key requirements when it comes to traveling to Nepal that UK citizens need to take into consideration. There’s no quick way of planning out your trip, as people from the UK will need a visa to enter the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

For most, it is unchartered territory for UK citizens to have to apply for a visa. As the Independent points out, “British enjoy the widest range of visa-free travel on the planet.” And while this may be somewhat of an inconvenience for British citizens, we’re sure they will soon forget about the rigors of applying for a visa the minute the step foot off the plane on Nepal soil. Listed below are the key areas to consider when traveling to Nepal as per the official Gov.uk website.

Entry Requirements:
To apply for a visa to enter Nepal you will need to contact the following: the Nepalese Embassy, 12A, Kensington Palace Gardens, London, W8 4QU (telephone: +20 7229 1594 or 6231 or 5352).

Once your visa has been approved it will be available to pick up when you land in Nepal. However, you must bring two passport-sized photos with you as well as the money to pay for the visa upon arrival.

If at any point you wish to extend past the 60-day quota, you must apply for this, 30 days before the end of the visa expiry date.

Apply to the following address: the Nepalese Department of Immigration at Kalikasthan, Kathmandu (telephone: +977 1 4429659).

Additionally, you must “have a valid passport to leave Nepal. If your visa has expired you will have to arrange an extension at the Department of Immigration, before your departure. Overstaying without authority is serious and you can be detained or refused permission to leave until a fine is paid, according to Gov.uk.

Passport:
Always make sure that your passport has more than 6 months left on it when you apply for your visa. Failure to do so will result in an unsuccessful application.

Vaccinations:
To travel to Nepal is imperative that you get a yellow fever vaccination. This is a requirement especially for those “countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.” Additionally, have a read of our ‘Health Care and Vaccinations’ article for further information.

Additional Medication:
If you have to take medication along with you on your trip make sure to bring a prescription. If you have any queries on what is allowed and what’s not, contact your nearest Nepalese Embassy for guidance.

Flying Information:
Heathrow Airport has many weekly flights to Nepal and is probably the best bet to book a reputable airline from. Though there are some questionable ones, too. Parking4Less a British price comparison website that operates out of Heathrow’s parking lots reports in their blog post ‘Beware of the Cheap Flights Extra Costs’ that not all flights tickets are what they seem. While some airlines may market themselves as ‘cost-friendly’ they often disclose extra charges and taxations until later on. Thus, these budget airlines aren’t always as cheap as they profess to be.

When traveling to Nepal it’s always best to go with an airline you trust, and that will offer you maximum comfort for the long journey ahead. Paying a little bit extra for quality service will take away the stress of flying.
