If you book an Award ticket and need to then change or even cancel the flight you better realize the Award Change Fees. It can actually be cheaper than you might think to change your flight or redeposit the Miles and some airlines don’t even charge you a fee to do either, which is fantastic news.
However, there are some carriers who not only don’t waive fees, but charge much more than the others, so we thought we should let you know about the award change and cancellation costs from some of the world’s major airlines, as it could make a difference to who you then book your award with.
There’s a few important pieces of information that you should know first:
- When you redeem your miles for an award ticket, you are subject to the cancellation fees of the airline whose miles you used, not the carrier that will be operating the flight.
- If you have elite status with an airline, you may well be entitled to either reduced or waived fees.
- If a schedule change happened that changes departure or arrival time by more than two hours (there is no exact rule, it always depends on the agent) award change fees are usually waived.
