What’s the deal with Marriott Hotels?

LivingSocial Los Angeles is currently offering 4 Marriott escape deals, with the best offer seeming to be a stay at the gorgeous Category 8 Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort and Spa in Southern California.

You purchase a voucher that’s valid for a stay any day of the week through June 26th, 2016, book on Marriott using the promo code LVG and then show your voucher at check-in. You can get:

• One night for 2 in a resort-view room for $159
• One night for 2 in a pool-view room for $179
• One night for 2 in a partial ocean-view room for $199
• One night for 2 in an ocean-view room for $229

These prices are excluding taxes but are meant to include the daily resort fee that otherwise costs $25, but when we tried a dummy booking using the promo code and reached the reservation review, it strangely added it to the total:

Hopefully it’ll simply be taken off the total when you check-in, but it’s worth double-checking at the time.

The deal page states that the $159 stay is usually $240, so we tested it on Marriott.com. It shows that for one night on May 7th, 2016, the Marriott Rewards member rate is $189 and the regular rate is $199, with neither of these rates including the daily resort fee. If you choose the regular rate (which you shouldn’t, as you can enroll in Marriott Rewards here for free), then the grand total is actually $249.55. With LivingSocial, it should total around $180.52 including estimated government taxes and fees, so a decent saving.
