Toilets in Thailand

The bathrooms in Thailand run the gambit from a hole in the ground to a high tech Japanese unit that will wash and dry your butt.  So even this very private moment can be an adventure for a traveler to Thailand.  The travel advise I have for you starts with...  Always bring your own Toilet paper.  You can't count on there being any.

The second piece of advice is that many toilets don't have running water to them.  There should be a bowl and a big container of water available.  If you didn't realize this, a big bowl of water poured into the toilet makes it flush just like pulling the handle.

The third piece of advice is to always carry a camera. You'll want to share your discoveries.  My favorite are the signs.   How about instructions how to use a western toilet?

Or what NOT to wash on the sink?  Apparently this is a problem in Bangkok.

A favorite are the bathroom signs themselves.  All three!  Men, women and monks.

How about this condom dispenser.  Why is the condom wearing boxing mitts?

And if the toilet wants you to rate your experience, be nice.  You don't want to make it cry.
