Top Five Things to Do When Staying in an Earls Court Hotel on Christmas Eve

“‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house , Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.” – Clement Clarke Moore – A Visit from St. Nicholas

Here at the Amsterdam Hotel in Earls Court, we can’t promise you an evening as quiet as the peaceful abode in Moore’s famous poem, but we can promise you that whether you’re looking to relax, have some festive fun, or simply treat the kids this December 24th, there’s plenty in store for you right on our doorstep.

Like what you ask? Well, just take a look at our pick for the top five things to do when staying in an Earls Court Hotel like ours on Christmas Eve.

‘A Very Dickensian Christmas Eve’

48 & 49 Doughty St , Holborn (From 10am)

Dickens’ classic ‘A Christmas Carol’ is a story almost all of us are familiar with in one form another, and now’s your chance to fully immerse yourself in the Victorian era so well known from the story of Ebeneezer Scrooge and other Dickens’ favourites.

From our hotel near Earls Court station, catch the tube to Russell Square to enjoy traditional carol singing accompanied by a paiano, regular theatrical performances throughout the Charles Dickens Museum and even an opportunity to learn how to make the perfect Christmas pudding.

Winter Wonderland

Hyde Park, W2 4RU

Based just up the road from the Amsterdam Hotel in Kensington Hyde Park, Winter Wonderland is a glorious festive-themed village which is a must-visit attraction when staying with us in Earls Court over Christmas.

Throughout the day, you’ll be able to glide around a ginormous ice rink, see far out across Kensington, Chelsea and Earls Court on the 60ft high Christmas wheel, take in shows at no less than two different circus attractions, and even stock up on those last minute Christmas gifts.

Santa’s Grotto

Harrods, Brompton Road, SW1X 7QN (Until 9pm)

Santa may be a little busy on Christmas Eve, but luckily our friends down the road at Harrods have persuaded him to pop in for one final visit before he jets off on his globe-trotting adventures with Rudolph et al in tow.

To treat your young ones to a last minute visit with Santa, head down Earls Court Road to Brompton Road and pop into Harrods any time on Christmas Eve. Who knows, you may even have a moment to treat yourself to a few little Christmas luxuries whilst you’re there.

Derren Brown, Miracle

Palace Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, W1D 5AY

Christmas Eve doesn’t have to be all Santa Claus and Starry Nights. If you’re looking for something a little different this December 24th, why not head into Central London for an evening with everyone’s favourite master illusionist and mind-meddler, Derren Brown.

Presenting his new show (due for broadcast in 2016) Miracle, Brown returns to the Palace Theatre for a long season of illusion, psychological magic and all-round entertainment that should provide the perfect way to wrap up your Christmas Eve.

An Evening at Ping

Earl’s Court Road, Earls Court, SW5 9QG

Of course, Christmas Eve doesn’t even have to be about fancy shows or extravagant events. For Amsterdam Hotel guests looking to just unwind for a while before getting tucked into bed ready for Santa Claus, you might want to try a few light refreshments and some delicious pizza thanks to our Earls Court Road neighbours at Ping.

A modern bar located just down the road from us, the focal point is the unique ping pong tables set up across the venue (hence the name), though you can always put the bats aside and simply enjoy a few gorgeous cocktails and yummy snacks before coming back to us ready to enjoy your Christmas Day.
