What’s On in London This November: Your Guide to The Biggest Events in Town

Believe it or not, November is one of the most exciting times of year for the team here at our Earls Court hotel.

Summer might be long gone, and Christmas may still be a few weeks away, but London is busier than ever with a packed calendar of truly spectacular events, entertainment, and world-class attractions.

Don’t believe us?

Just take a look at our guide to the biggest events in London this November, all within a short distance from the Amsterdam Hotel, Earls Court.

Guy Fawkes Festival and Fireworks

Royal Gunpowder Mills, Beaulieu Drive, Waltham Abbey, EN9 1JY

Saturday, November 4th to Sunday, November 5th

Based just over an hour away from our Earls Court hotel, the Royal Gunpowder Mill hosts a day-long celebration from 2PM onwards which features fairground rides, children’s craft activities, bar and barbecue, and live music.

Throughout the day, your young ones will enjoy the opportunity to make their own Guy Fawkes Lantern, and learn all about the historic Gunpowder Plot in a live costume performance.

Of course, the highlight of the evening is the fireworks itself, which go off at seven PM and turn the skies of London into a vibrant wonderland of explosive colours and exciting sound.

Natural History Museum Ice Rink

Cromwell Road, SW7 5BD.

Open daily, 11AM – 9PM

At this time of year, ice skating in London becomes one of the area’s most popular activities, with a host of rinks rocking up across the capital.

For our money though, none of those other London ice rinks can really compete with the one that makes its home on the grounds of the Natural History Museum each autumn and winter.

A highlight of any visit to Kensington & Chelsea, the Natural History Museum is less than a mile away from our hotel on Earls Court Road, and, together with its traditional Christmas tree, provides the perfect backdrop to an early evening spent gliding across the ice.

Prefer to stay firmly on two feet? You can always walk over to the cafe bar, where a selection of delicious winter-warmers, delightful meals, and refreshing drinks await.

Southbank Centre Winter Festival

Southbank Centre, Belvedere Rd, SE1 8XX

Daily from Friday, November 10th

Back for another year, the Southbank Winter Festival sees the iconic venue transformed into a haven of all things festive, with plenty to keep you entertained inside and out.

Outside, you’ll find one of London’s most diverse and exciting Christmas markets, offering up a range of handcrafted gifts, warming winter goodies, and unique arts and crafts from across the UK and Europe.

Step out of the cold and into the warm embrace of the Southbank Centre itself for an enthralling programme of live music and entertainment. The highlights of this year’s performances include ‘Slava’s Snowshow’ – a riveting performance for the whole family – and a special performance from Norwegian musician Terje Isungset, who plays enchanting music on instruments made entirely from ice.

Lord Mayor’s Show and Fireworks

Various locations throughout London

Saturday, November 11th from 11AM

A historic tradition dating all the way back to the 12th century, the annual Lord Mayor’s Show and Fireworks spectacular is an absolute can’t-miss event if you’re staying with us at our London hotel this November.

If you’re up and about early, head to Victoria Embankment from Earls Court Station to catch the first event of the day – a grand river pageant long the times which begins at 8.30AM.

The pageant proceeds down to Tower Bridge where it receives the full mayoral salute, before a vibrant procession of floats, street entertainers, dancers bring the streets of London to life with the traditional 11AM procession.

Finally, the whole thing culminates with a dazzling fireworks display in the early evening, offering yet another chance to see London’s night sky illuminated with colour.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

Hyde Park, W2 4RU

Daily from Friday, November 17th

No list of November events in London could ever be complete without mentioning the return of the one and only Hyde Park Winter Wonderland.

Every year, the Amsterdam Hotel team eagerly await the arrival of this incredible festive theme park which takes over the magnificent grounds of Kensington’s Hyde Park from November 17th onwards.

If you’re staying with us at any time from then until January 1st, 2018, you absolutely mustn’t leave without first experience the magic and joy to be had in what is truly a one-of-a-kind Xmas experience.

Whether it’s the UK’s largest outdoor ice rink, the thrilling fairground rides, or the chance to enjoy unique live entertainment at one of two circuses that keeps you entertained, or the chance to pick up some special gifts at the Winter Wonderland Christmas market, you’re guaranteed to find something at Hyde Park that really warms your heart this winter.
