5 Events You Can’t Afford to Miss at the Royal Albert Hall in 2017

One of the perks of running a London hotel near the Royal Albert Hall is that we’ve been fortunate enough over the years to enjoy some truly world class culture and entertainment right on our very doorstep.

In the past twelve months alone, our team have enjoyed performances by everyone from internationally acclaimed orchestras to chart-topping pop stars, and all manner of artists in between.

In 2017, the Royal Albert Hall’s line-up is already looking set to be just as impressive as in years gone by, with a host of unique events already on the calendar.

As we begin booking their own tickets for their favourite upcoming shows, we’ve put together our guide to the five events at the Royal Albert Hall that you absolutely can’t afford to miss the next time you come to stay at the Amsterdam Hotel, London.

Cirque du Soleil: Amaluna

Thursday, January 12th – Sunday, February 26th

It seems somehow perfectly fitting that the historic Kensington venue should launch its year-long programme of spectacular events with a show as dazzling and dramatic as Cirque du Soleil’s latest work, Amaluna.

A tale of romance, and of love’s triumph in the face of adversity, Amaluna‘s death-defying stunts and unbelievable performances are guaranteed to take your breath away.

If you only attend one event when staying at the Amsterdam Hotel in January or February, make it this one.

British Academy Film Awards

Sunday, February 12th

It’s the biggest night of the year for the British film industry, a night when A-list stars turn out in force to celebrate best in cinema from the past twelve months.

Broadcast live on the BBC (with the red carpet being streamed live via Facebook), this is such an exclusive, high profile event, that tickets aren’t necessarily on sale to the general public.

Despite this, huge crowds are expected to arrive here in Earls Court, all hoping to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars as they walk the famous red carpet.

Titanic Live

Sunday, March 11th

In 2016, we were thrilled to learn that so many of our guests booked a stay at our hotel near the Royal Albert Hall to see the venue’s ‘Movies and Music’ series, featuring screenings of classic films scored by a live orchestra.

This year, it’s the turn of James Cameron’s 1997 classic Titanic -now celebrating its 20th anniversary- to be performed by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

Conductor Ludwig Wicki will lead the orchestra in performing a live version of James Horner’s original score, all whilst the film itself plays out in all its dramatic glory in full high definition.

Teenage Cancer Trust Concerts (featuring: Olly Murs, The Who, and More)

Monday, March 27th – Sunday, April 2nd.

There’s so much going on in March that would we could literally fill this entire article with events from that month alone. Though we won’t do that today, we simply can’t go any further without mentioning the annual series of concerts organised by the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Raising funds for the UK charity, pop star Olly Murs kicks off the week-long series of events by performing all of his well-loved hits on Monday, March 27th.

Two nights later, it’s the turn of comedian Romesh Ranganathan, who heads up an all-star bill which also includes Jo Brand and Kevin Bridges.

On Thursday, March 30th and Saturday, April 1st, rock ‘n’ roll legends The Who perform their ground-breaking album Tommy in its entirety, along with many of their other classic hits.

The Jam frontman Paul Weller headlines a show in between those two dates, before the week wraps up with a performance by the Pet Shop Boys which also features The Smiths’ guitarist Johnny Marr and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

The Music of Bond

Tuesday, April 11th

Finally, we return to the movies, and to that most British of film institutions; James Bond.

Presented by Fiona Fullerton, who played KGB spy Pola Ivanova in 1985′s A View to Kill, the night sees conductor Gareth Hudson lead the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra through inspiring renditions of Bond themes including those from Casino Royale, Diamonds Are Forever, Goldfinger, From Russia with Love and more.

Vocals are performed by the incredibly talented Alison Jiear and Simon Bowman.
