Your Complete Guide to the Top 10 Things to do in London this November

From Mexican fiestas to traditional festive fun, it’s all going on in London this November. Without further ado then, here’s our complete guide to the top ten events, shows, and attractions, all taking place within close proximity of our hotel in Kensington and Chelsea.

1: Guy Fawkes Night in London

November literally starts with a bang as bonfires crackle and dazzling fireworks illuminate the sky.

Yes, dear readers, Guy Fawkes Night is once again upon us, and where better to celebrate it than right here in London where it all happened?

Visit the Houses of Parliament, tuck into a toffee apple or two, then check out one of the incredible bonfire night celebrations we rounded up in our recent blog ‘Where to Watch the Best Fireworks Displays in London This November.’

To really round things off, you could even head back to your luxury accommodation here at the Amsterdam Hotel in Kensington and Chelsea and catch V for Vendetta on your flat screen TV.

2: Day of the Dead Fiesta at Wahaca

Thursday, November 3rd (The Vaults, Leake Street, London SE1 7NN)

Actually, as it happens, Guy Fawkes Night isn’t the first big event taking place this November.

That honour goes to the Mexican holiday known as Dia de los Muertos, or ‘Day of the Dead’ to you and me.

The two day festival is held each year to commemorate and celebrate the dearly departed, and traditionally takes place from October 31st to November 2nd.

This year, national Mexican restaurant chain Wahaca -who have an outlet close to our Kensington and Chelsea hotel at the Southbank Centre- are bringing Dia de los Muertos to London on November 3rd.

The brand’s Day of the Dead fiesta features live music and entertainment, street food, and even lucha libre.

3: Regent Street Motor Show

Saturday, November 5th (Regent Street, Soho, London, W1B 5TD)

Fireworks aren’t the only time you’ll see sparks flying this November 5th, as the biggest free motor show in the United Kingdom returns to Central London.

Throughout the day, motorheads can marvel at literally hundreds of classic, modern, and futuristic cars, making for a celebration of over 125 in motoring.

Live music, interactive displays and presentations are all part of this free, family-friendly day out.

4: Oxford Street Christmas Lights Switch On

Sunday, November 6th (Oxford Street, Fitzrovia, W1A 1EX)

From Kensington High Street to the ever-charming Chelsea, guests at our South West London hotel will have no shortage of Christmas lights switch-on events to attend over the next couple of weeks.

Arguably one of the best, and certainly one of the biggest however, is over in nearby Oxford Street, where 1778 of the famous snowball-esque illuminations and almost 800,000 LED bulbs will illuminate London’s busiest shopping street.

Expert entertainment, fun and games, and a high profile celebrity in town to do the honours.

5: London Triathlon

Sunday November 6th & Monday November 7th (ExCeL London, Docklands, London, E16 1XL)

From switch-ons to starting lines next, as the biggest triathlon event in the world sets off from the ExCel Centre.

Over 13,000 participants are expected to sprint, cycle, and swim their way to glory, raising around a £1 million for good causes in the process.

Entries for this year’s event are closed, but it’s free to join the thousands of spectators lining the streets of London and cheering on the participants in one of the month’s most inspiring events.

6: Christmas Comes to Leicester Square

Daily from Friday, November 11th (Leicester Square, Central London)

Kensington High Street and Oxford Street may be your main destinations for a luxury Christmas shopping trip, but there’s nowhere quite as guaranteed to get you in the yuletide spirit like Leicester Square.

From November 11th, the area becomes the capital’s epicentre of all things festive, with a Santa’s Grotto, Christmas Market, and a packed programme of season shows all taking place right through until early January.

Highlights include the internationally acclaimed La Soirée circus, who will be performing their spectacular show on a daily basis.

7: 2016 London Jazz Festival

Friday November 11th until Sunday, November 20th

For ten whole days, London comes alive with an array of contemporary and classic al jazz performers from both established performers and emerging new talents.

Highlights of this year’s 2016 London Jazz Festival include the UK debut of Joshua Redman and Brad Mehldau, and a rabble-rousing performance from must-see act The Big Shake Up, just five minutes away from the Amsterdam Hotel in Kensington.

8: The Lord Mayor’s Show

Saturday, November 12th (Starts at Bank and proceeds to Aldwych)

A tradition dating back over 800 years, The Lord Mayor’s Show celebrates the city’s latest new mayor with all the pomp, circumstance and ceremony you’d expect from a place like London.

Over half a million people are expected to hit the streets of London as the mayor is escorted as part of a grand procession to Westminster, where they’ll pledge their allegiance to the crown.

Afterwards, the event ends in fitting style with a grand firework display over the River Thames.

For the best views, head out early from our South West London hotel and catch the tube from Earls Court Station to Bank Station.

9: Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

Daily from Friday, November 19th to early January (Hyde Park, W2 2UH)

For the past decade, Hyde Park in Kensington has been magically transformed each November into a magical realm of wintery delights.

This year is certainly no different. As the Hyde Park Winter Festival celebrates its tenth year, there’ll markets, music, ice skating and incredible entertainment taking place right throughout the festive season.

10: Hogwarts in the Snow

Friday, November 19th to Sunday, January 29th (Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, Leavesden, WD25 7LR)

The Making of Harry Potter attraction at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour is a must for fans of the boy wizard all year round.

This November however, something very special is happening at Hogwarts, as authentic sets from the blockbuster movies are lovingly adorned in a blanket of beautiful snow.

Meanwhile, the famous Great Hall will be fully decorated in time for a Christmas feast, and the Gryffindor common room is stuffed with festive goodies.

Elsewhere, you’ll have the chance to see genuine props from the film franchise, and even get a behind-the-scenes look at how many of the films special effects were made.
