Hinduism and Judaism *

Hinduism and Judaism are among the oldest existing Religions in the world. The two share some similarities and interactions throughout both the ancient and modern worlds.

Both cultures have an ancient origin with their roots woven into the Iron Age.

Around the ten century BCE, both religions surfaced in the Asian subcontinent.

Both religions were regarded by some scholars to be ethnic religions, and not promoting conversions.

Adherents of both religions, however, are found across the world.

Both religions share common elements in regard to a complicated system of laws, purity codes, and dietary restrictions, for defining their communities.

Brahmins and Jews who viewed themselves as “God’s chosen people. Brahmins had a “community of priests” while Jews had a “Kingdom of Priests”.

Hindu sects have a variety of beliefs about the nature and identity of god, believing variously in monotheism, polytheism, pantheism, and panentheism. In Judaism, God is an absolute one.

The extent to which legal regulations, customs, and royal ordinances in Halakha in the Jewish tradition and Dharmaśāstra among Hindus are binding on members of their respective societies.

Jews never faced persecution by Hindus, neither are there any records of Hindus facing persecution at the hands of Jews. The creation of Israel as a Jewish state by Zionists was supported by Hindu nationalists who wanted to make undivied India a Hindu state. Jews have lived in India for over 2,000 years and have never been discriminated against.

The similarities between Judaism and Hinduism may be purely coincidental. Judaism has developed independent of Hinduism. Both religions are ancient. They share commonalities.

If you want to create a calendar in the ancient times, the things you observe are day and night; and waxing and waning of the moon. Naturally, you would create a lunar calendar.

Both religions have the concept of a creator or father figure that they believe in.

The division in the caste hierarchy is another striking similarity between the two religions.

The Jews in the early ages were known to have twelve tribes that had a clear demarcation in the societal structure.

The two religions have been fundamentals to several other religions.

Religions like Christianity, Islam, Mormonism, etc. have arisen from Judaism, whereas Hinduism has given rise to Jainism, Buddhism ad Sikhism.

Jewish and Hindu groups have faced numerous hatred on social media platforms.

Both Jewish and Hindu works of literature have had a significance of literature and language.

The ritualistic natures of both Hinduism and Judaism have been prominent in their respective ways.
