5 Ukrainian castles and palaces that can disappear forever

Many interesting castles and palaces have been preserved in Ukraine. A lot of them are considered architectural monuments today. Some palaces and castles are neglected and may collapse and disappear in the near future. It is not known whether they will be restored and will reach the next generations.

Sanhushkiv Palace

The ruins of Sanhushkiv Palace are in Iziaslav city in Khmelnytska region. The palace was built in the 18th century in Baroque style. Sanhushkiv Palace was built as a residence for princes. It was built next to Novozaslavskyi Castle. At the end of the 19th century, the palace became owned by the Russian Imperial Army, with soldiers’ barracks housed in the rooms. The palace was not restored in times of independent Ukraine. Therefore, only the ruins of the Sanhushkiv Palace remain today.

Potocki Palace

In 1984 the Tulchyn school of culture is located in the palace. OperaFest festival has been held at Potocki Palace since 2017. Today, the main building of Potocki Palace, a huge park, a fence around the main building ensemble are well-preserved. The back facade of the palace and two outbuildings are in poor condition. The interior decoration of the palace also deteriorated, including parquet floors and stairs to the second floor. Palace needs restoration.

Popova Estate

The Estate was plundered by the Bilshovyks in 1918. A pedagogical colony of Makarenko has been located in the building of the estate since 1925. And there is a cultural house in the estate since 1934. In the war years the estate was badly damaged by the Nazis. Today there are interesting historical museums in the building of Popov Estate: “Wild Field period Estate” and “Popov Museum”. The houses that are in the estate are gradually being destroyed and in need of restoration.

Chervonohradskyi Castle

Initially, in the 13th century, there was a wooden castle of the Russian princes. The last structures were made in the 19th century. Before the First World War, the castle was a refined Italian-style terrace and colonnade. Landscaped park with a fountain was near the castle. The castle was badly destroyed during World War I. Today, the ruins of two towers remain from the castle. Tourists like to come here.

Tereshchenka Palace

Tereshchenka Palace in the Neo-Gothic style is located in Chervone village, Zhytomyr region. The palace was built in the early 19th century on the money of Adolf Hroholskyi, a Polish nobleman. Later the Tereshchenko brothers bought the estate. They rebuilt the palace and renovated the park. In 1917 a children’s dormitory and vocational school were placed in the palace. Later, the palace was badly damaged by the fire.
