The official New Year’s celebration at Sofiiska and Kontraktova Square in Kyiv will last from December 14 to January 19. The festive firing of Christmas trees for the people of Kyiv and the guests of the city will traditionally take place on December 19 at 19:00, the day of St. Nicholas. This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration.
New Year’s theme on Sofiiska Square became known throughout the world Christmas story about the Nutcracker.
On December 19 at 17:00 the celebration will open the Christmas parade, which will take place from National Opera of Ukraine to Sofiiska Square. The official firing of the Christmas tree will take place after the parade.
According to the organizers of the holiday, the Christmas tree this year will be decorated with 750 toys in the form of chocolates and 4 kilometers garlands of warm colour. An eight-pointed star of bright garlands will unfold around the Christmas tree. The main characters of the fairy tale about the Nutcracker with the Ukrainian Cossacks will “guard” the Christmas tree.
It will also be possible to not only immerse yourself in the magical world of the adventures of the Nutcracker on Sofiiska Square, but also take pictures with your favorite characters. There will be four “kingdoms” – children’s entertainment, gifts, likes and tastes – between which the Christmas Express will run.
The European town in Ukrainian traditions will be arranged on Kontraktova Square. The stylized design is supported by a thematic program. In addition, they will open the residence of St. Nicholas and will illuminate on December 19 a Christmas tree decorated in ethnic Opishnianskyi style.
From December 14, 2019 to January 12, 2020, winter entertainment will take place at Sofiiska Square, Volodymyrskyi Passage (from Mykhailivska Square to the intersection with Alla Tarasova Street), the carriageway of Volodymyrskyi Passage opposite the house No. 5. And from December 14, 2019 until January 19, 2020 year – on Kontraktova Square, Petra Sahaidachnoho Street (from Kontraktova Square to the intersection with Andriivska Street).
