Journey through time: Dnipro

Katerynoslav (and now Dnipro) looked completely different more than 100 years ago. Some places have changed beyond recognition, while others have become just a little more modern.

Karaimska Street

Karaimska Street (Torgova) was located near Tsentralna Square. Ancient Dnipropetrovsk looked very solid! There was one of the most famous hotels in the city on this street: Continental Hotel, whose balcony was decorated with very beautiful statues. The street ends with the beautiful Church of the Assumption. Now it is the corner of Tsentralna and Shyrshov Streets.

Winter Theater

The Theater on Katerynynskyi Avenue (Yavornytskoho) has been operating for more than a hundred years. It was the Winter Theater in the early twentieth century. Then it was known as Horkoho Theater of Russian Drama and Comedy for a long time. One of the oldest theaters of Dnipro was renamed most recently. Now it is the Dnieper Academic Theater of Drama and Comedy.

Medical Academy

The first classical men’s gymnasium, located on 2 Soborna Square.
It is the building of the Dnipropetrovsk Medical Academy since 1920. The building is partially preserved.

Katerynynskyi Avenue. Square near the city garden.

Now this place is called Horkoho Square. There is ongoing active construction of the subway, so part of the area is fenced. Car parking also has a lot of space. But something still remained unchanged – there were fragments built over a century ago in some buildings.

Shevchenka Street

Office of the Katerynynska railway

Railway Administration – the largest administrative building that was built at the corner of Katerynynskyi Avenue and Pryvokzalna Street in the early 1900s. It was restructured in the mid-1930s: it became much larger and acquired the characteristic features of the Stalin era. The building failed to remain intact during the war, but it was restored in 1947.
